Why Sachin Tendulkar is failing to score his 100th Century - The Secret (A Fan View)

It's because:

1) When Sachin made his 10th test century Sourav Ganguly (dada) was at other end...
177 in '96 at Notthingram in England

2) When Sachin made 20th test century dada was at other end...
126 not out at Mohali

3) When Sachin broke Don Bradman's record to get 30th test 100 dada was at other end...
193 at headingly

4) When Sachin become the first batsman to get into 40 test centuries club dada was at other end...
109 at Nagpur

5) And when sachin broke Sunil Gavaskar's record of most test 100's
109 at Delhi... to get his 35th 100 dada was at other end

6) When Sachin went past Brian Lara's record of 11953 runs dada was at other end...

7) When Sachin broke Azharuddin's record to become highest run getter in ODIs dada was at other end...
Narobi mini World cup final 2000

Sachin is missing 100th ton because his lucky charm ' Sourav Ganguly' is not at the other end...

xx CB Series - Match 1 - India vs Australia - Melbourne
February 05, 2012, 03:19:49 AM by dhruvdeepak
India win the toss and are bowling first.

Million Dollar Man Ranganath and Praveen Kumar are our pacers. Spin-focused attack with Rahul Sharma, R Ashwin and R Jadeja (also now a Test hopeful after making it to CSK aka India 'A')

Prepare for a shellacking with Kohli coming on in the 6th over!

Aila is playing instead of Sehwag (rested?!)

Why the f**k are Pathan, Zak, Umesh being rested?

xx Get well Yuvi!
February 04, 2012, 11:24:32 PM by cricinfo
Best of luck , recover soon

Graver than thought

- Yuvi undergoing treatment in US

Calcutta, Feb. 4: Yuvraj Singh’s illness appears to be more grave than disclosed.

According to a source of The Telegraph, who holds a key position in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the star all-rounder is currently undergoing “chemotherapy” in the US.

There was, however, no confirmation from the family. Father Yograj, in fact, advised that Yuvraj’s illness be kept at a “low key” by the media.

Basically, that it’s a personal thing.

It was on November 26 last year that Yuvraj’s mother, Shabnam, announced that he had a “non-malignant tumour” in his left lung. Also, that he’d been battling it for months.

Yuvraj was expected to be fit for the T20 Internationals and the tri-series in Australia, but he made himself unavailable in the lead-up to the January 15 selection.

Word then was that Yuvraj had “overdone” things at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, where he was on a rehab regimen, obviously keen to quickly make a comeback.

With the BCCI not revealing details officially, and the family falling silent, one has been left a bit in the dark.

“Am fit physically, but not medically.… Am ruled out for selection,” had been Yuvraj’s SMS to this newspaper last month.

That something is really amiss came through in the Sahara media release issued this morning.

Among other things, it said: “...Shri Yuvraj Singh, who is truly like one of our family members, is unfortunately passing through a bad phase health-wise, undergoing treatment for a critical illness, overseas.…”

Responding to Sahara’s “emotional” decision to withdraw from the IPL and the Team India sponsorship, the BCCI mentioned the following: “...in the light of Yuvraj Singh’s unfortunate illness.…”

“Critical”, “unfortunate illness.…” It’s so alarming.

Yuvraj (Player of the Tournament in the 2011 World Cup) has, of course, been reduced to a “pawn” in Sahara’s stunning move on two major fronts.

Sahara owns the Pune Warriors India, the most expensive IPL franchise, and Yuvraj was its captain last year, in its debut season.

With little going right for the Warriors, the franchise finished second-last. Leggie Rahul Sharma, though, made a huge impression and he’s now wearing the India colours.

We are open to negotiations - Sahara chief
Nagraj Gollapudi
February 4, 2012

Subroto Roy, the head of Sahara India Parivar, has said that he is not "rigid" but open to negotiations with the BCCI. Sahara withdrew as sponsor of the Indian cricket team and also its ownership of the IPL franchise Pune Warriors. Roy said he is open to negotiations because his primary concern is the welfare of the players of the Pune Warriors.

"We are not rigid," Roy said, in response to whether Sahara would be willing to re-consider its decision to pull out of sponsorship of the Indian team and withdraw from the ownership of the Pune franchise. Roy insisted the Pune franchise should participate in the IPL this season regardless of the decision taken by Sahara today. "I am really worried for one thing: that my players should get to play. Money I'll take care of, I am not worried about money." Roy however was not clear as to whether that was referring to the team playing under new ownership. He did, however, say he had asked the BCCI to scout for a potential corporate who would be interested in running the franchise.

Asked if Sahara would be back if the players are not transferred and the team is not sold to someone else, Roy said: "It does not depend on me alone. It also depends on the BCCI. We are there to support them. We are there to adjust many things."

Roy said though the decision was an emotional one, he and his senior managers were in constant touch with the BCCI top brass. In fact, Roy himself had called up N Srinivasan, the BCCI president. "I had never spoken to him previously. It was the first time I had called him. I told him as a head of a company and you being the head of the BCCI, it is my responsibility to let you know of our decision," Roy said.

Srinivasan said he was not the head when certain decisions taken were not in favour of Sahara. "I told him in plain words. These were the difficulties right from the beginning. I know you were not the president from the beginning, but today you are. If you do not listen to us, then it is difficult to walk ahead," Roy said.

In their initial response earlier today, the BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla had said Sahara's decision was "unfortunate" but would react properly once they get an official communique from Sahara.

xx The Secret Life of Indian Cricket

The Secret Life of Indian Cricket

Greed, ego, complacency turn Team India into losers

SHANTANU GUHA RAY  | February 3, 2012

On the third day of the third cricket Test in Perth, Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, 30, kept the door of his $200-a-day Hyatt Regency hotel room open for more than two hours. It was Team India's third straight loss in the four-Test series. Two teammates stepped in to ask if he was expecting any visitors. "I am expecting all of you. May we discuss why we are in this mess?" he said. No one dropped in.

Perhaps the cricketers, having already lost the Test series 0-3, were thinking of the auction for the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), scheduled in Bangalore on February 4. In the T20 capital of the world, IPL earnings have become critical for top players since the cash-rich league started in 2008. What began as a frivolity has become the primary interest of cricketers tempted by wealth rather than motivated by national pride. The brand value of IPL in 2011 was $3.67 billion (Rs 18,350 crore), according to a Brand Finance report. The sideshow appears to be taking over the main event.

In 2011, Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar, 38, earned Rs 9 crore each from playing the fourth edition of IPL for Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians respectively, while Gautam Gambhir, 30, who captained Kolkata Knight Riders, earned the highest last year, Rs 11 crore. This was almost five times the amount they would have earned from playing Tests, one-day internationals (ODI) and T20s in 2011. Top Indian players in Grade A get an annual retainership of Rs 1 crore and earn Rs 7 lakh per Test, Rs 4 lakh per ODI and Rs 2 lakh per T20 match. In 2011, some cricketers played, on an average, 15 Tests and 30 ODIs, earning a maximum of Rs 2.25 crore in match fees.

In this new commercial culture of the game, there is little incentive for good players to raise their game and become members of the elite club, Team India. Take Yusuf Pathan, 29, who is yet to play a Test but earned Rs 10 crore by playing IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011. Or Robin Uthappa, 26, uncapped in Tests and who played his last ODI game in 2008. He earned Rs 10 crore from Pune Warriors. Contrast IPL earnings with what cricket boards hand out to their players. Cricket Australia's highest paid player gets around Rs 7 crore. The maximum annual contract fee paid by the England and Wales Cricket Board is Rs 3 crore. Fast bowler Umesh Yadav, 24, is a classic example of divided loyalties bred by divided royalties. He is a Grade C player in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) contract system and gets Rs 25 lakh a year. In 2011, he earned Rs 3 crore by playing for Delhi Daredevils. His IPL value in 2012 will multiply after his impressive showing in Australia.
