Go, See, Conquer
« on: February 27, 2007, 09:23:54 PM »
I think as the d-day approaches, the whole of India will be dishing out this kind of  mush, although the couplets by Prassoon Joshi at the bottom of this are not bad.

The worst I had heard was the "wailing" ....."all the best, all the best, LG ki dua, all the best...."

Go, See, Conquer
Anil Thakraney

It’s been 24 years since that fateful June afternoon at Lord’s when Kapil’s Devils smiled never-ending smiles on the Lord’s balcony. In a blaze of in-cutters and unbelievable catches, the Indian cricket team had scripted the most unbelievable World Cup victory of all time. Back home, almost a billion hearts erupted with joy.

Tonight, five World Cups and a zillion dashed hopes later, another team flies to the West Indies, carrying with them the dreams, aspirations, expectations and best wishes of the entire nation. This, of course, is a new India. Our formidable presence on the world stage has arrived. Today, our people are showing the world how the IT business gets run, our industrialists are buying out international giants. We are right ahead on medicine, arts, cinema… our entire economy is on a bull run. This India believes in itself, it is not content to be second best.

We hope our players will replicate the same steely resolve and hard determination that new India packs in. Go get them, we are all behind you. We will pray for every wicket, celebrate every run, dance on the streets after every catch. If you win, we shall remember the 28th of April, 2007, just like we remember that summer of ‘83. But if you don’t, you will still be our boys, our heroes. Do your best, that’s all we ask.

*  As team India leaves for its World Cup campaign tonight, ad-man and Rang De Basanti  lyricist Prasoon Joshi gives words to a billion aspirations. Exclusively written for this newspaper

DUAEN CHALENGI
Jab Tum Chaloge,
Yeh Dharti Chalegi,
Fizaaen Chalengi.

Toofan Bankar,
Tumhare Watan Se,
Hawaaen Chalengi.

Tumhe Khelna To Akele Hi Hoga,
Magar Yaad Rakhna,
Pukaaroge Jab Bhi,
Karodon Dilon Se,
Duaen Chalengi.
