You may want to make this one sticky:

Wow!  Eden gets 2 Ireland, 1 Kenya and 1 India/England matches.  No QF or SF matches!  In fact it got the worst fixtures among all 8 Indian venues.  We know our politics well, really well!

New Delhi and Chennai got slightly better deals compared to Kolkata.
And if India doesn't play the finals, then Mumbai doesn't get an India game.

But surely A'bad doesn't deserve a QF ahead of Kolkata, Chennai and Delhi.
And how come Dhaka gets two QF. Moreover that lifeless Mohali stadium getting a semi-final is plain silly.

Chennai got much better deal (than Kolkata and Delhi) - 3 matches between regular teams and one between Kiwis and Kenya.  Delhi is kind of in similar situation as Kolkata.

Yes we do know our politics really well.  Be it Manohar being at the helm or Dalmiya being at the helm.  Some things never change in India in every walk of life.  Accept it and move on.

Dhaka does not deserve even 1 game. This is all done for vote politics so Bangladesh will vote with Asian block. Regarding Indian venues - it is a delicate balancing game between hosting venues and player selection. "You did not select x players from my state in the team so I need y ODI games to vote for you next time". Mayawati needs to head the BCCI. There are no Dalits in management.

Some of our resident Bengali friends who thought that Kolkata should have been allocated with more important games as if it is their birth right needs to understand that now serious questions have been raised if the venue will even meet the bare minimum requirements set forth for a WC hosting stadium.  I am sure the BCCI and CAB will eventually strike a deal with the higher ups in the ICC and make it appear that they are ready.  But we know given the nearness of the WC it is impossible to get this ready to what is expected of given the amount of work left to be done.  Read on.

The report was especially scathing about the condition of Eden Gardens, which it said had more unresolved issues than any other venue, and of the local administration. "Unfortunately, the venue administration did not recognise the requirements of the event and were often unwilling to discuss or agree to what was required. There was a tendency to rely on experiences of previous World Cup matches which took place in 1996, and are not wholly relevant to the needs of stakeholders for CWC 2011."  (Looks like with advancing age Jaggu has gone senile.)

The report states that "a meeting with Mr Dalmiya [president of the Cricket Association of Bengal] was useful in explaining a few of the issues; however he was not present for discussion on the detailed requirements of the inspection team."  (I am sure Dalalmiya and his cronies were busy looking for ways to swindle away the funds one of his speciality areas instead of being present to listen into the requirements and discuss them.  Oh well.)

I think the people from Bengal as well as rest of India should complain about this lapse. After all, Eden Gardens should be one of the best venues in the world. But unfortumately even the 1996 experience was not that great if one remembers the pitch Indians had in their dreadful semi-final against Sri Lanka (ignoring the fact that Azhar "wisely" chose to field rather than bat after he won the toss).

I appreciate you greatly for making the efforts to dig out information to explain the situation.  Needless to say that West Bengal is going down the drains for the last 40 years and it is not surprising that Eden would be in same situation.

However, I am disappointed by your comment of "birth right".  Is it not possible to respond to an honest query more respectfully?   Why is there a need for negativity?

You are welecome.  I am just trying to do my bit to rile up some of my Bengali friends here, I suppose. :)

And coming to the WB going down the drain for the last 40 years, I can say the same thing about AP too when I look at various issues in every walk of the life.  So in my estimates most states in India would be competing with each other in 'going down the drain' category.

That is why I keep myself confined just to cricket and nothing else.

ICC consultants should be the last people to talk about holding tournaments. The disaster which was the WC 2007 should not be forgotten, thanks to these morons trying to homogenize all stadiums around the world. Every stadium has it's unique flavour, and expensive corporate boxes and ridiculously equipped media centers do not make for a great venue.  So lay off the Eden Gardens. I saw the India SA test this year from the peanut gallery. I was more than satisfied, with it. Easy access to the exits and food area where you can get tasty local made lunch for only Rs. 10. Soon these idiots will mandate certain regulations in the name of "safety" which will turn it into a rubbish airport food court. As it is they have neutered the atmosphere by reducing the capacity from 100k+ to 70k.
