P.G. Wodehouse is great.
I've read "Three men in a boat" long long time ago - thanks for reminding, I need to get it and read again.

Tubelight!

Sodium Vapor,
Those were separate responses! One was abt PGW and the other to another post on Jerome K Jerome  :icon_jokercolor:

But, thanks for reviving an interesting collections thread...Folks can probably add more to this based on what they've read recently.

I love Maugham of course, but more for his short stories, RAIN?

Remember Wodehouse's Mike and Psmith, don't they resemble Dravid and SG?

No one mentioned Jack London yet, one of my absolute favourites.
all the talk about Maharathis and seniors, should read "A Piece of Steak"
here's the Link

Good post, saneguy.

I've rented many books from the library. But - as far as buying "my own" - My parents for the first time (probably I was in grade 4 or grade 5 then) gave me some "discretionary money" that I can use to go and buy something. The very first book that I went and bought at a booksale in my school using part of that money was White Fang. (I dont remember now if it was an adaptation to suit junior reading or whether it was the 100% classic original - it may have been the original, not sure)

Here's a few by faculty at my program:

Things They Carried by Tim O' Brien (NY Times calls it one of the best books of the last 25 years)

Jesus' Son by Denis Johnson (another NY Times best book of the last 25 years)

Will@Epicquest.com  by Tom Grimes (if you like post-modern humor)

Hazy Shades by Saurabh (coming in 2008)

Yes, he was the vet himself. The books were like his memoirs.
Great description of life and times in the Yorkshire dales!

Did not know that the DG had another James Herriot fan, I had accidentally stumbled upon his books when I was in class XII and became a instant fan...really beautiful narrative with an ability to transport you to his times beautifully...

If any of you are mystery/thriller fans, I recommend Harlan Coben. His Myron Bolitar series is excellent. In addition one of his standalone novels "Tell No One" has been adapted into a French movie (has won several awards) by Guillaume Canet.
