These Olympics boxing matches are won and lost on strategies as it is based on points for punches in the face - one can beat a better opponent with a better strategy. Akhil was better than the other boxer today but the other boxer had a better strategy than him. He had a very good defense and got most of his points on counterattack. I felt Akhil was a bit overconfident coming in and this bout was lost in the last 10 secs on 2nd round, where he let his guard down and conceded a point and the 1st 45 secs of the 3rd round where he conceded 3 more points. This 55 secs tilted the score from 2-1 in favor of Akhil to 2-5 against Akhil. After that, Akhil was just playing catch up for the remaining 3m15s of the match.

This was a close game till 1 min into the 3rd round: Jitender was leading 8-7 and then conceded 6 pts in the final min of 3rd round

Very well played : did not make the same mistake as Akhil and Jitender - did not go into offense too much - right balance of attack and defense, waited to counterattack at the right moment. Had great defense and more importantly excellent reflexes to dodge all his Gongora's punches in double quick time - left Gongora gasping after 3 rounds

What was pathetic was none of the Indian olympic association contingent were present during the medals ceremony today afternoon !!! most of them were apparently watching some athletics events in brids nest at that time....

A lot of allegations of match fixing of many of these boxing matches by the judges have come out yesterday and today. One of the bouts in question is Akhil's QF bout where he was not awarded points for a lot of punches.
