When The Bored(sic) Meet.......
« on: November 21, 2007, 05:08:14 AM »
They had gathered in a hurry as an emergency meeting had been called by the Big Man himself. They had to dispose of a very important matter by today; otherwise it could have far reaching implications and shake the very foundations of the country itself. No it was not Mushy at work but a Board that oversaw the game in the country like, to borrow a few words from Ronen Sen’s immortal phrase, ‘a headless chicken’.
The secretary glanced through the long list in his hands that represented the various important issues in front of the Board that required urgent attention. He wondered which of these it could be.
Possibly the issue about the selectors and their syndicated columns
Or was it the decision to select one bowler to replace two
Could it be to discuss the quality of Indian umpires or to allow Saheba to umpire again?
Maybe to discuss the quality of pitches prepared in the country
Possibly the quality of the outfield and ground itself
Or had they received their first application for coach?
Maybe to rationalize the number of games being played by our cricketers in future
Discuss the amenities provided to our spectators at stadiums
Could it be to reorganize the junior level tournaments?
Could it be to appoint talent scouts in all states?
Have they decided to move the Board head office to Sydney after all so that some of the Aussie professionalism would rub off on them?
Or have they decided to allow the ICL rebels to play domestic cricket
Better still have they decided to recognize ICL?
Was it the broadcasting rights for future games, Channel 9 perhaps?
Were they going to allow Sachin to buy a stake in the Mumbai Team?
Or have decided to take on that CV discussion group which always seemed to have more practical/ other ideas than the Board could ever dream of?
His head buzzed with the endless possibilities.
Just then the Chief came and called the meeting to order
‘Gentlemen we have this very important issue to decide, do we allow film stars to attend cricket matches?’
To a cricket fan, King Juan Carlos’s comment ‘Why don’t you shut up?’ would have been very appropriate here.
