Ruchir,
I honestly do not know if *any* of this is true, and I have described my reasoning -- which can be summarized as all these leaks are from one source.
Which single source is that?

I'm sure it's not GC. He can't have this detailed knowledge of player contracts.
The seniors really do not lose that much. Do you know how much SG's businesses are worth? His family business and his father-in-law's business bring is tens of crores of profit each year. Compare that to a Munaf Patel or a Wasim Jaffer. And if you think SRT would lose all his endorsements tomorrow, think again.
Do you think that SG is a kind of person who likes to live off his father's money? I don't. If it was true, why would he be working his ass off to be in Indian cricket team? Earlier, and now? No self-respecting man like to live off his parent's money. SG wants to earn his own money.
But that's beside the point. The point is not how much rich the seniors are. SG and SRT are not the only seniors. You have RD, VS, ZK, HS too. They are not as rich as SRT or SG. But that's not the point.
The whole point is that there is a loud voice, that says that players have certain clauses in their contracts that hurt the team's cause, that force them to play selfishly. The whole issue is about these clauses. Money comes into play only because players earn money through these injurious clauses.
Another thing is that if you limit the sponsorships of players, these clauses lose their meaning and don't remain as injurious as they are now.
Again, to me the most important issue is the clauses. Money earned via these clauses is secondary.
About contracts, who knows? Is there any *legal* way of forcing players to produce contracts? Why is the BCCI so scared of naming names? Do you really believe that they are concerned about people burning effigies? If you are, there is a bridge in Howrah that I would like to sell to you.
When the all-powerful body claims to have proof and does not produce it, something stinks.
Currently, I don't think players have an active contract with BCCI. Maybe they do. But hopefully it will be expiring soon. When they sign the new contract with BCCI, it can enforce the conflict of interest clause. It can show that the Advertising contracts players sign have a conflict of interest with their contract with BCCI. So players will have to furnish the details of what they are signing (without financial details).
It is a culture in India to be secretive about everything. Take any walk of life. Take Govt. It is completely opaque. Take sports. Even, take indivisual households. No one likes to disclose anything they are doing. BCCI also operates in India. My opinion is that any business entity, govt. etc. should be completly transparent in its working. But that doesn't happen. So BCCI may not be concerned about effigies, but don't expect to be completly transparent when dealing with scandals/issues. You can WANT that they are open, but you can expect them to be the opposite.
And yes, I would be interested in buying Howrah Bridge, if you can get it for free.
And Ruchir, I look forward to hearing you asking for RD to be dropped with SRT.
I just read it. And I completely abhor it. It is as much injurious to our cause as anything else. Yes, RD needs to be the 7th guy, to be dropped with the other 6 losers. It actually makes sense now. Why was RD supporting VS inspite of being in horrible form? Earlier I thought RD was a fool. Now I see he is quite cunning. We should also see if HS promotes Pepsi or not.
