Where it possibly went wrong.........
« on: March 25, 2007, 10:01:07 AM »
 IMO:
•   Defeat v/s Bangla was shocking and hard to digest and kept hurting to players however they thought to forget it. The reasons for that were inability of settled batsmen to force the pace and quitting just when their presence needed most. (This is usual story, needs to improved on a warfront.) Freshers could not capitalize and accelerate in short span of last 7 overs, hence collapse.
•   Early breakthroughs v/s Lanka were denied by poor umpiring. Although it had not mattered runs wise, a crucial psychological advantage was lost.
•   SL could consolidate in last 10 overs which had dented the Indian mind set somewhat.
•   RU- Could not chance his arms more and finally out to a good catch. He should have learnt to play safe and yet at pace.
•   SG- Never in good touch like last two games. But this time could not survive. Else he would have scored slow, chancy 50 for his personal delight but of little use for team (like last time), as its an O-D-I. SG is out of form but not out of luck these days except today when it  is both.
•   VS- Batted as usual like throughout his bad times, only survived till a moderate score and survived much longer vs Bermuda. Whenever he survived least it was rated as a genuine failure. But IMO whenever a batter survives while edging, misjudging, chancing etc it’s a failure as well (irrespective of how much he scores) VS was never out of form but out of luck.
•   SRT- Since was trapped before settling , he is less responsible than those who remained there to fight but could not. But now a days SRT although settles, still keeps on struggling to score. So I doubt what he would have done if batted till end. Hence could still be blamable.
•   RD- Appeared fighting lonely. But as per his reputation, held on only till 50 and started airy shots immediately thereafter, which he had not tried prior to 50 quiet wisely. It seems RR7+ was bothering him too much knowing his inability. Had he stayed till end no other outcome was possible.
•   YS- The most foolish dismissal of entire inngs. Was it a mad rush of blood? Had he batted till end the result was in our favour.
•   MSD- Out before settling hence not got any chance to perform. If stayed till end good outcome was possible unlike many others staying long.
•   AA- again a case of mad rush of blood. Could have done some sensible work with RD.
•   HS- Mad rush of blood was on, any time as usual
•   ZK- same story …….and so on ……..so the same old worry of how to stop such HARAKIRI
For months of experimentations, GC could not rectify the HARAKIRI defect.  In between time we seemed to have overcome this very problem, when we had a series of consecutive chase-wins  But we could not identify the real cause of our success then. Had we done that, we could have stuck to that principle. But one most important ‘Eureka’ found during experimentation went unnoticed and we are back to square one………needless to repeat again what I mean ………

Dhoni batted like an idiot. Thats the reason he got out before he could settle in. Going back to some one like Murali so early in your inning is inviting disaster anyway. And lets face it, Dhoni is far from competent when it comes to playing quality bowlers on sporting tracks. He can only play on surfaces (Pancakes) in India...

May be WI surface was not like indian sub continent (Although i personally feel the pitch was more like India's against sl when we batted) .Our Batting looked grt on paper , but it is great only on sub continent and that too in india
May be batting order was not correct - too many stroke players at teh top of order in seaming surface (Even though it was not for us against SL - may be the mindset).
