I agree with all your predictions LN. I do however think that Penelope Cruz has an outside chance for best actress for Volver, and Peter O'Toole could pull off a sentimental upset in the best actor category. I will be absolutely furious if Scorcese does not win. I am, frankly, a bit worried about that. Being a die hard New Yorker, he is considered something of an outsider in Hollywood. That is, Marty does not have time all year round to do some wining and dining with academy voters. Many consider him to be a snob. While this stupid attitude should not come in the way of judging art, it has repeatedly come in the way of Scorcese in his glittering career. It is a shame for Hollywood that they overlooked, for the most stupid and parochial of reasons, films like Raging Bull, Taxi Driver and Goodfellas.

sudzz..think Whitaker deserves to win it for The Last King of Scotland..he's brilliant in that movie...can't understand how DiCaprio was nominated for Blood Diamond...it was a good movie..but he wasn't that brilliant...think he may have had a better shot for The Departed...

I agree Black indeed is beautiful (definetly more than pasty white)...but the woman that won the best supporting actress was looking and behaving like a cross between a Mumbai fisherwoman and a Chennai Nari Korati.

won the Oscar last year for 'The Constant Gardener'. chilling story - did a great job. interestingly, she played the role of a real-life woman who i met, who works in Toronto. The book was based in part on her experiences in battling the big drug cos.
