Kapil dev has been one the the greatest all rounders in World Cricket history. He scored more than 5000 runs and took more than 400 wickets in test cricket. He went on becoming the highest wicket taker breaking record of Richard Hadlee. Kapil Dev has also been a good captain. Under his captaincy India won the world cup for India in 1983. He also won test series for India against England on England soil in 1986 after a gap of many years. Who can forget his smashing 175 against zimbabwe in 1983 world cup when India were down 15/5. Kapil Dev started his debut against England in 1979 series against Pakistan in Pakistan in 1979.
There's another memorable incident against England In 1990 when India needed 24 runs to save the follow on in that test match, kapil dev met this target by hitting four consecutive sixes. This was the last pair to bat. This proved the right decision as in the next ball number 11 batsman was out.
Who can forget his century in 1986 tied test match against Australia when he saved India from follow on and India went on close to winning that test match. In 1982 series against Pakistan, kapil dev was man of the series and India went on winning the series by 2-0. In One day series against West Indies in 1987 Kapil dev hit sparkling 80 plus runs. It was almost half the runs scored by the entire team. In 1992 series against South Africa Kapil Dev made brillinat century when he hooked and pulled Allan donald when all the batsman were were struggling on facing the Donalds pace. It was the moment when he was towards the end of his career.
As a batsman Kapil Dev was quite aggressive and natural stiker of the ball. He was always entertainer for the crowd. People always enjoyed seeing him batting and bowling. His bowling was not quite fast but he was a medium pacer and used to swing the ball. The allrounders double of 400 test wickets and 4000 test runs is taken only by Kapil Dev. He did not did justice to his batting as he used to come on 6th or 7th number but still scored more than 5000 test runs. Had he come on the upper order he would had more runs. The greatest ability was that Kapil dev bowled most in the Indian pitches which offered no help to fast bowlers. Still he went on becoming the Higest wicket taker. He had also faced the spin bowling quite consitently. Its evident from the fact the way he used to face great spinners like Abdul Qadir and Michael Holding in his times.
The more we write about him,the less it would be. But his own wordings come true "Becoming Champions requires a lot of hard work but those who are on its path will surely be called Champions. "
