Who are the holy 7
« on: February 12, 2007, 08:19:27 PM »
RD mentioned that there are 7 key players and there is a support cast that works with these to make it happen. I personally don't subscibe to this kind of thinking bcoz it is indirectly telling someone in the XI that less is expected of him and he is not a match winner.

But lets try and list the great 7 ( if there is any such thing at all!!)

1. SG
2. SRT
3. RD
4. Yuvi
5. ZK
6. AA
7. HS

There may be a case for some of the folks to want to replace one or two of the 3 bowlers and substitiute them with VS,MSD or IKP. But I think this is the core of the team and these are the 7 that are most likely to be selected every single match. Now we need 4 other guys that can support these. One wud have to be MSD and out of the remaining 3 we at least one batsmen and one bowler.

My vote for the 1 bowler would for MP, I know he sucks as a fielder and batsmen but if he is fit and in form he can be the 3rd seamer. Of the 3 other seamers (IKP and SS being the other two) he is the most reliable. The batsmen ideally wud have been MK but in his absence I may start of with KD. If nothing for the fielding, later we could evaluate RU/VS. That leaves the last all rounder spot that would be a toss between IKP and VS. I think I would tend to go with IKP but if VS regains form then he is an automatic chocie ahead of KD. IKP is far more relaible with his fielding and unfortunately less talented but more relaible with the bat and obviously with the ball he can be trusted a little more than VS. The bottom line is if VS can't make himself a part of the core, its difficult to use him as support cast bcoz of the very nature of his high risk/ high reward style of cricket.
