Aus vs England - 1st Final
« on: February 09, 2007, 06:39:07 AM »
aussies were cruising after winning the toss and batting, at 180-2 in 33 overs. England have pegged them back with regular wickets, the score now reads 243-6 in 45.1.

Ponting made 75, and Hayden 82. It's up to Watson and Hogg to take them to a sizeable total

Cricinfo Reports:

Well, when Australia were cruising at 170 for 1 in the 30th over it seemed a 300+ score was on the cards ... but they then lost their last nine wickets for 82 in 18.3 overs in a positively Englandish performance. After an indifferent start, England bowled well but Australia contributed to their own downfall. The pitch is not a belter and England have the added problem of batting under lights, so this could be a tight second half. Join us in 40 minutes ...

England can pull this one off.

Aussie bowling has been ragged for most of this series .. its their batsmen who have pulled it off for them. Now, with only 253 to get and no Vaughn at the top of the order to put that added pressure of an early wicket, England have a fair chance.

Well, didnt see the second dismissal, but the first one was a shocker decision ... clearly going down the leg side ... admit, it looks a bit iffy now. But am still hoping for a good match.

it is funny how many bad umpiring incidents have come up after Hair's dismissal ... i mean every series around the world, we've heard of incompetent umpiring ...

well these two are doing reasonably well ... 172 reqd in 29 overs ... 7 wickets in hand ... if this partnership stays alive for another 10-15 overs, we have a good game on our hands

heartening performance by England. they have a real chance!!! they are winning some hearts so far today (including mine). of course i will be back to supporting aussies for the remaining game(s), but they are really fighting it out today. 137-3 in 31. chasing 253. can they do it?

Indians should really take a leaf out of this middle overs batting performance by England - no matter what the end result.

Learn only the good things atleast....

If one noticed, the middle overs did not have boundaries but the run rate was always under control....

In fact close to 15 -18 overs were played out without boundaries...or maybe just the odd one in between

Collingwood is turning out to be a good allrounder...fielded like a possessed man and batted out of his skin

I think there have been multiple posts on along the same line and I agree. Specifically, Kaif could learn from watching Collingwood in this particular match...it would be highly compatible with his game.

Ravi I only meant learning to chase from a position of 15/3 and not imploding like we do at the slightest sign of pressure as we did in the WC 03 twice

Yes. Mcgrath has not been at his best. Like I said at the beginning of the England innings, Aussie bowlers have not been that overpowering for some time now ... NZ, for instance, got 300+ against them too ... their batsmen have been putting the issue beyond most teams. If you get them under check, tackling the bowlers should not be that difficult.
