Men in Blue bat for Vengsarkar's wife

Tuesday February 6, 04:48 PM

Mumbai, Feb 6 (ANI): Taking a break from their pressing schedule, the Men in Blue had a 'glittering' day at the launch of a jewellery line designed by the wife of chief selector of the BCCI, Dilip Vengsarkar, here yesterday.

The jewelleries designed by Manali Vengsarkar where put on display for the first time, and to add to the sparkle, Indian cricketers, including Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Irfan Pathan and MS Dhoni paid a visit to there.

Sachin said he has come to extend his support for the cause of a family friend.

"I am basically here to support and congratulate Manali. We are good friends and I have known her for a long time. So, I am basically here to support and congratulate them," he said.

Ganguly on the other hand did not lose the opportunity to shop.

"I don't want to go into details but whichever looked good to me with a naked eye, I have picked it up. I don't know more than that," said Ganguly.

They later left for Kolkata for their first of the four-match one-day series against Sri Lanka. The four matches are in Kolkata (Feb. 8), Rajkot (Feb. 11), Goa (Feb. 14) and Visakhapatnam (Feb. 17). (ANI)

Conflict of Interest ?

For people like Sachin/Sourav/Dhoni who are sure to be picked up anyway , it doesn't matter.
But what about  Pathan ?

That is what I was thinking as well.

I hope these visits and business garnered through all these players will not play a role in selection.

As is we have one dummy there in Raju in the committee who I think is literally bullied.

Flute I did too when he was in NJ along with Krish Srikanth in 2000 summer.  And also I would want you to know he used to play for HPS(Hyderabad Public School) Begumpet around the same time as I went to school in Hyd., and played U-15 level cricket for Hyd., and I knew him from back then.  Nothing close or anything like that but I do know about him and some other close friends of mine knew him very well as they played league cricket together in Hyd. long after I came and settled in U.S.

All this to just let you know that I am aware of this guy.

I have reasons to believe what I do based on certain comments by DBV on Laxman and Nehra the guys who he can get away saying things as he wish.  As they say every dog has its days.  And now it the Mumbai Dogs day.  So I will let it go at that.

Can BCCI try to get JB as Indian coach? I'm serious. I think he will be a good help for the Indian team.

John Buchannan. Now that he is getting out of Aus coaching, is he retiring or open to new opportunities, I don't know. But BCCI can try attracting with a good offer.

Ideally they should do this "quietly" (ha thats a joke with bcci). But do it quietly, and then after WC announce the change of leadership blah blah with JB or someone like that.

I think Fineleg meant John Buchanan.

But I do think that change will not make much of a difference given the mindset we in general have.  JW during his last 1 year was ineffective since no one would buy into his methods any more once the TEAM saw some success which gave rise to ME above the world attitude on a multitude of players and the carry over of that into GC's tenure is well documented despite the credentials of GC as a coach and man managements skills notwithstanding.

We can all on this DG lay as much as blame on GC as we want to that suits our POV but the bottom of this lies with our players.  One cannot change if one does not want to and improve.  Recent example VS asking for a net session and not showing up despite the horrendous form.  If I did that in my line of work I will be looking for another job for my refusal to show commitment and will to improve.  Here VS gets a recall.  If it were the Aussies they would not let VS anywhere close to the vicinity of the TEAM.

Buchanan in my opinion should not consider this job after achieving world class success coaching the consumate pros.  It will be a compromise for him accepting this job after seeing what JW and GC went through.

Bottomline is NO ONE, not VS, not SRT, not RD should be tolerated if they have that attitude that VS supposedly displayed by not showing up for practice.

If that allegation is true, just drop VS. Period. No questions asked.

We win WC07 or we lose first round - either one we do without a slacker. We can't be made to choose a slacker because TINA (tina = there is no alternative).

I hate using TINA as a reason to select slackers...- really really really hate TINA.
Forget Tina and just take a team of willing to work hard folks. Win or lose short term.

If memory serves me right, I think before that..with Indira *hi as the PM, India Today (with our home grown psephologist Prannoy Roy)had done an opinion poll between 80-82 and coined this term.

Good choice of word - haven't heard that in a while.
