The march towards the WC
« on: January 31, 2007, 07:50:17 AM »
Always watch the bookies. They truly put their money where their mouth is.

As of today, here is Bet365's odds

Australia   2.37

India             8.00
Pakistan    8.00
South Africa   8.00
West Indies   8.00

SL 8.5

NZ        13
England 13

Poor NZ!

With KP rested, I wouldn't put the odds on England that low either. They are playing with nothing to lose at all and feel the least pressure among everyone. A rampant Flintoff, KP his usual self, and a consistent Ian Bell could mean very tall scores. And their bowling can easily match India's with Panesar coming into his own.

My picks for the semis (that's as far as I think form will take teams, beyond that in the knockouts it can be anybody's game)

-Aus, WI, SL, India

Lets get this straight. Australia are going to be in the semis and England are not.

So its down to 6 teams for 3 spots.

I think Pakistan and South Africa have an edge over the others while New Zealand are a bit of a longshot, SL I dont think can carry on their great run on Windies soil (this is just a gut feel)

So it is down to West Indies and India to fight it out for the last spot.

With this series we might have just gained the "pshycological advantage" :P :P :P ...

Sure for semis: Aus
Excellent chance for semis: SL
Most likely for semis: WI, SA

WI may get replaced by NZ or Pak above (that is the outside chance)

SL ahead of India? On what basis?  ???

South Africa team with the likes of Bossman, is not going beyond Super 8.

Aus, India, WI, Pak/maybe SA

Pretty likely this will be the line-up. Only West Indies can probably take out Australia, based on Lara, Chanderpaul, Gayle, and Sarwan's brilliance. Indian batsmen seem to be hypnotized against the Aussies, but should have no problem against other teams.

Aus and NZ are sureshots for semis. Pak/SA and WI are other likely spots.

Ind and SL can take the same flight back.

Hope I am proven wrong

What has NZ ever done outside of Aussie/NZ land that makes you think of them as sureshots??

This was the reasoning even in Champions trophy but they looked to be a very good team despite major abscences in the team. They may not be a great test team but have a bunch of major ODI impact players + Aussie like skills in running between the wkts and fielding. Oram has just boosted their chances.

Also I like to make bold predictions!!

I dont think so - not in the Caribbean. Again this is more of a gut feel. I think Pakistan are a darkhorse. I think they could go the distance.

I predict that SRT will tear the Aussies a new one and forever remove that smug look from ponting's face this WC!

Tony Cozier today suggested that Bangladesh might upset either India or SL. !!
I think India, Pakistan and SAfrica will join Aus in the semis. If Akhtar isn't his stupid self, I see Pakistan lifting the trophy. And no, I don't see the Aussies winning this one, although they are still my second favourite team.

LMAO. There is a reason we called it Vista ULTIMATE, you know! Pathetic Mortal - trying to make other OSes coexist with the all powerful one!

PS: Use diskpart in windows to see if you can still see the partition.
