Some stats on Federer-Roddick match

Federer had only 49% first serves.
Federer had 12 unforced errors in the match. Roddick had 18.
Roddick won 6 points in the second set.

Federer equalled a 73 old record for consecutive finals reached.

Yes, I saw the match. And what a match!! The score suggests a non-match and yet Andy Roddick was playing well. I hope for the guys in the US, they show the recorded match. Some of those passing shots, hard to see them again at least not at that frequency. I was like a professional playing against a schoolboy.. And all this with Roger's service being much weaker than normal...(50%?? His average for first normally is above 70)

I watched it. If there is a God, he is Roger. And Andy...man, why do such such things happen to nice guys? I know Roger is a nice guy but I almost felt pity for Andy, something I never feel for athletes.

I was listening to a replay of Andy's post match press conference. Poor chap..

Resurgent Roddick stopped in his tracks

By Ed Osmond

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Andy Roddick's resurgence as a major force in tennis was halted in stunning fashion by Roger Federer in the Australian Open semi-finals on Thursday.

The American sixth seed went into the match confident of improving his 1-12 career record against the world number one but his challenge was left in tatters by Federer's 6-4 6-0 6-2 destruction.

Roddick gave a blunt assessment of how felt during the match.

"It was frustrating, it was miserable, it sucked," Roddick told a news conference. "Apart from that it was fine."

Roddick, a former world number one and U.S. Open champion, paid tribute to his opponent's devastating performance.

"He played well, no doubt, he was coming up with some great shots tonight," the American said. "He outplayed me, he played a lot better than me and he deserves all the praise that he gets not just for what he does on the court but how he handles himself."

Roddick said he had no inkling before the match that he was in for such a drubbing.

"I didn't foresee it at all," he said. "You try not to get discouraged, you try to take it like a man and I will get up in the morning and try and work out how to go forward from here."

The 24-year-old admitted he had not played up to the standard of tennis he produced on the way to the semi-finals with victories over former champion Marat Safin and ninth seed Mario Ancic.

"I don't feel like I played like I have for the rest of the tournament," he said.

Roddick said Federer would be the overwhelming favorite to win Sunday's final against Fernando Gonzalez or Tommy Haas.

"I think their chances of beating him are slim," Roddick said before being asked if he would be able to sleep after such a heavy defeat.

"It depends how much I drink," Roddick said.

I watched Serena's match late last night....

The euphesims used by announcers (lack of training, not in top shape etc) to indirectly describe "how FAT she had become?" were hilarious!! Man, has she "grown" or what...I think she will  be lucky to get to Quarters.
Time to eat crow.. Serena played a tough match against Sahar Peer of Israel and won.. she is in semis. Wow.
..and she is in finals. Holy cow. Incredible.. I guess having a big heart with a big butt helps!!

This is amazing, I did not watch the match but those that did told me that it was sheer determination and grit that won her the trophy. I was told that it was not like Serena played her best ever or something, It was more to do with her single minded determination to win.

Sorry to bring cricket into this one...but when have we ever seen that kind of a spirit from our team or our stars. The only one I can think of in a long time is Kapil who would give his 110% each ocassion that he stepped on the turf.

Heck If only we can find 11 Indian's of this mould....

the gist was: the chilling efficiency, power, focus that she put into the match was in a strange way erotic. this, given i think she resembles a horse with a giant ass.

Set 1 : 3-3.
Vijay Amritraj is doing good color commentary. I like him.
4-4. Good save by Gonzo after being down 0-30.
I sense a good match is building here.
