Shame on SRT,RD,VVS & SG
« on: December 30, 2006, 08:53:51 PM »
and in that order. I am not simply talking of this test. Over their whole career, praised as the strongest batting line up, for all the hype, for all the money they make, I think, these four simply let India down over the span of their careers. With such great avg., with such great centuries, with so many records, where are the results to show for it?

Barring, RD & VSS, who each had 3 great victories to their name, all these 4 consistently let India down in tests whenever there is lil bit of pressure. I think, leaving aside the reputations & records, a kaif or Praveen Amre type players would have very simply saved a day like this for India.

I am especially pissed with SRT. For all his records, for all his media hype, for all the money he made thru cricket, how many times did he step up to play a GREAT TEST INNINGs? for a guy, touted as one of the all time greats, where is that ONE GREAT innings? Its a huge let down.

Unlike the likes of Ponting and Waugh, these four never really ever raise the game up a few notches when faced with pressure. That's something we have to live with.

Those Aussies fight out of every difficult situation and our guys have a knack of coming back with defeat from jaws of win.  There is no comparison.

I would be laughing hard at this line...except it is hurting too much right now.
Comparing us with the Aussies is a big f'ing joke. We are not even in the same league - till we realize this, our overpaid, overrated, pampered (beta, le doodh pee le) players will continue to give us mediocre results...unfortunately, that is what us fans have been happy with and quite frankly, deserve.

I don't know why in all these blame-mongering, no one has picked on Dhoni. Yes, he scored 47 runs and batted for quite some time, but...

1. The sun came out and the pitch became comparatively placid when he batted, an opportunity denied to the top order (not that I am condoning their failure). Had he not played that horrible shot, he could have stayed right till the end, and manufactured a draw. After all, he was the last recognised batsman at the time. He should have remembered his responsibility.
2. Zaheer was giving him great company. There was no reason for him to play that stroke at that point of time.
3. Another 15 mins may be, and we could have saved the test. Dhoni's indiscretion really stands out in that context.

i agree. stupid shot, given that tea was minutes away and it was very likely that bad light would come to play. after the mumbai brain arrest, one would assume he wd have learnt - guess not!

Agreed. Think abt it - it is NOT JUST the Mumbai Test when MSD was brain dead...he has done it in quite a few ODI's too - atrocious shot selection from MSD in quite a few matches (Test + ODI combined).

Dunno - should we bench him? Prob not yet. But he needs to be given a earful (and the other 10 guys as well+ GC as well)

In terms of footwork (or lack thereof)
SRT-stupidest, VVS - stupider and VS - always stupid

Ho,
Watch it, Arjun and the rest. Dhoni shouldn't be criticized on this DG even if his brain freezes over every single time we need him to stay one or two more minutes on the field.

However, I do think flute's original post is harsh. Our batsmen, barring rare occasions have never had the support of a good bowling attack. There is a lone Srinath spell or AK's marathon effort. In contrast, look at Waugh's record for example. If he somehow gets a century or even a half century and Aus have anything above 150, that is enough for McG and company to defend. Accept it, ours is a mediocre team with brilliant individuals. Not quite Real Madrid but close.

Ahh, so now every thread you will spew venom. Or perhaps I simply questioned what you said about our injured keeper playing for 50 and personal records and wanting to bench him...

well, chat seems to lead to unnecessary arguments with people. so, in the larger interest of this DG, i sacrificed my chat experience *lump in the throat*

ha, and miss all the spectacular catches SG takes at slips? no way!  ;D

actually, i find that, with my advancing age, it is hard to shift my eyes from one screen to another - more comfortable to plonk in front of the TV and watch the game uninterrupted. also, i can give the colourful vocabulary on chat a miss and let you "boyz" have your special kind of fun, be it Ann Coulter's legs or someone's else's whatever  :P
