India and China-the threat we have...(Cricket related)
« on: December 17, 2006, 11:42:14 AM »
Iam posting this knowing that in the middle of a engrossing match not many will read this...

Those that have followed the Asian games will know that China reached the finals of field hockey and lost to the eventual winners and therefore won silver.

What many might not know is that this was probably China's first major foray into this sport. They actually took to this sport about three to four years back and have become a force to reckon with (Iam talking about mens hockey, in womens they have been a power house for a few years more now).

Whats amazing is that they picked up this sport about a decade back effectively and have attained world standards in the womans game and are getting there quickly with the mens as well.

Now to cricket from the reports we read, it does seem like China is taking to cricket. What it means is that they will do their damndest to excel and become the force they want to be in this sport as well.

For all those that would pooh pooh this suggestion, the one thing to remember is that they are a focussed nation that does not venture into things if they feel they wont dominate.

I will not be surprised to see them competing in the next WC from the fringes and rise  up to the top by the World Cup after that.

It is therefore imperative for India to either put a huge distance between them and us or block their entry.

Interestingly, their famous Korean coach studied hockey in India. But what to do our own hockey federation is one man's monopoly and he's not as capable as Dalmiya was either. So count the days until KPS Gill leaves -- then perhaps the next dictator will be more competent.

Still don;t understand how sports federations are run in India.

Dont even bother going there to find out sports federations are run...I guess they have replaced kingdoms for old out of work princes etc.

But the point about their thoroughness is amazing...they appoint a Korean coach, make him learn the sport in India and beat India and almost beat Korea as well.

Imagine how easy it will be for them to learn the sport of cricket in India and believe me for the first two three years they will even learn it out of Bangladesh if required.
