When intelligence matures and lodges securely in the mind it becomes wisdom. When wisdom is integrated with life and becomes action it becomes Bhakti. Knowledge when it becomes fully mature is Bhakti. To believe that Jnana and Bhakti, knowledge & devotion, are different from each other is ignorance.

Just buy a crappy cell for a couple of thousand ( Rs, ofcourse) and get one of the prepaid plans.

As for the driver, use the good old 'ask others' method :D Or your local garage.

PS: I dont live in india, but was there last month.

You mean like how some horny aunties need maalis and drivers? :D

I think if you go to car rental agencies, they should be able to provide you with a driver and gaadi. But why do you need a driver? Don't tell me you are planning to go to your ancestral home, deep in Punjab, dressed in a green suit, red tie, red and yellow polka dotted shirt, sun glasses and all, just to show off your Amreeki "status". I know of someone else who visited his state recently. You could take his help.

Yep, Suraj's motives seem strange; sounds fishier than Frazer's job description

Suraj, take plenty of pictures.
When I go to India (yes now a days visas are granted to Pakistanis) I plan on taking pictures of every damn thing
4 years so long and these 2 weeks are so unbearable, a part of me wants the US embassy to refuse extending my visa

Those living in India- can you please also tell me

-what is the best way to hire a driver for a month or so and

Go to the nearest travel agency near where you will leave they will have a car and a driver available the standard rate should be Rs 800 to Rs 1500 for 8hrs or 80Km's which ever is less. Anything above that it will cost you approx 1.50 per KM + Rs 25 additional for the driver.

Therefore say you do a 15 days deal he might give it you for Rs 600 per day or so + only Driver lunch ka kharcha etc...

-whether I can rent a cell phone for a month

no one will usually give you a instrument, but with your Indian Passport you can get a SIM card and stick it into any GSM phone it will work, Iam sure there will be somoene that you know who has two phones and is not using one.

I will have to do some business related work too and need these essentials
