Hey,

LN: I am a long time reader of Mahanandi :D I follow quite a few food blogs both desi and non desi. I am currently reading Jamie Oliver's books while I soak up his blogs too :D

PS: I am thinking of starting a food blog myself. I just need to get the discipline to post regularly and in detail

Dex,
one clarification -- does the recipe have to be from *my* family?

Otherwise I have plenty of family recipes -- from the Patak family, the Gits family and many others. I proudly cokked sambar from a Gits family recipe yesterday. Yum!

Not really a family recipe, but here goes. ..

1 cup really strong expresso
1/5 cup Vanilla vodka (stoli Vanil would do)
1/2 cup dark rum (Myer's is fine)
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 coconut milk

Blend away. Pour into serving glass and drop in a stick of the finest dark chocolate you have. (atleast 60% cocoa is needed for the right bitter bite)

When intelligence matures and lodges securely in the mind it becomes wisdom. When wisdom is integrated with life and becomes action it becomes Bhakti. Knowledge when it becomes fully mature is Bhakti. To believe that Jnana and Bhakti, knowledge & devotion, are different from each other is ignorance.

Actually I was thinking of "One pan, One can, One man" but decided against it since it sounds like a plumbing ad for geriatrics. :D

Food threads are the cast-asides of this DG. So, no one cares what happens to food threads. (this one may be special given that Big Gangsta started it ;D)

Man, I would like to see you turn into a grumpy old woman and have a conversation with the Grumpier GC!!! hehe.
Seriously - why would you give up all tasty food to live longer, longer and even longer ;D

Either people don't have anything good they eat or they are protective of what they eat and don't want anyone else to eat what they eat. Which one is it?

Probably neither. A few may not know recipes of themselves, rest may need discipline to overcome the laziness to type it up ;D

well, here you go - my lunch for the today.

1 cauliflower, 2 carrots, 1 floret of broccoli, some edamame beans

boil them in water, once soft, add salt, pepper. ready to serve! (make sure to drink the water too)
if you want to go an extra yard, steam them instead of boiling.

simple, very family-ish and healthy!

I am close to your neck of woods..in Dallas.. just ate at Clay Pit in Addison. Goan chicken curry. It was OK.

Any recommendations for a good Indian restaraunt here. Sahir had suggested a few in the chat.. unfortunately, i forgot.

I promise to add some recipes here as soon as possible.

Coming attractions :

1) Mang-kottai Kozhambu (Mango seed stew)
2) Milagu Kozhambu (Pepper stew)

two of my fav cold day dinner items. Hot rice + one of the above + appalam (papad) == sheer bliss

nah - kozhambu is kozhambu - not a stew, not a porridge - a slightly thicker sambar. dunno why one has to translate. curious people will make it, eat it and if they like it enough, learn to pronounce it :P why shd only the french and italian words creep into the culinary vocabulary? time we force some tamizh words in.

interestingly, i found out recently that some people (indians) don't know how to pronounce the "zh" sound and were reading it like the hindi one.
