Is this a DG or is it a place where a few speak and the rest nod their heads...There are lot of us who are regulars here and primarily come here for cricket related discussions.

Many a times our opinions are not heard, posts not responded to and in fact the whole purpose of belonging here is defeated.

When we choose to bring this up we are called names..why because we dont stage grand exit drama's, we dont create issues of nothing, dont have connoisuers taste in food and wine  etc etc etc...The point is it is better to admit that this is a DG of for and by a few the rest merely make up the numbers.

Iam sure there will be opinions and a few cursory answers to my thread but no will have the balls to really admit it....

For all our efforts we will be called whiner, snobs etc etc..so dont think anything much is going to change for us..we are like those Indian cricket fans who will roast their butts to enjoy a day at cricket

Try some stunts.
Well, actually to get a thread going requires some luck, it seems! :)

i agree with you jaaat, the luck factor is in perception

if you are lucky to eb eprceived as aheavy it does not matter what cock you write, you will have wide-eyed responses.

substance in any reply or thread is generally a distant second, as long as you are part of either a group or you can essay it you are in mate , those who can't are plain unlukcy

It is unfortunate that you and sudzz( the 2 of the more knowledgeable posters) feel left out.
Sometimes pioneers may feel left out, depends on the perception.
I, being a lightweight anyway, fortunately never felt left out or rather, never cared too much.
This is like the Indian cricket's Great-Circle..........you join it and get along from there.

arre suddzz itna gussa kyon. let me tell you something. i started a thread on indian domestic cricket, for which i spent 4 hours writing the first post. the thread has died after 12 replies despite my attempts to resuscitate. sometimes it happens dude. live and let threads die is the moral of the story.

its not a question of not taking yourself seriously at all, its a question of how particiaptive any social forum finally is. a lot has to do with perception and this observation you will find in any part of life, college, office, your club. people do not bother with really what someone gets to the table, as long as it looks good. so if you spray chanel on dried * and sprinkle it with colour balls you will find takers. of course do not forget to call it L'Yhtuy hsa Hrethy or L'Wino Crtehydi de 89 or some nasal twitchy name.

I started a non-cricket poll on Mock..........and it went on to become the largest thread, even past match-threads! :D
The Cliquettes overtook it(thanks to some childish posts)....but secretly I take pride there too ( I was the main topic of discussion there! :D )

But anyway, this is not so important. Serious cricket topics( technical issues) hardly generate a huge response. Hardly many visit the 'Cricket Knowledge' board.
Only people-oriented threads(players/coaches/dg members) draw a lot of response.

DD its not gussa, I find it quite amazing that the whole approach is so perception dependent that sometimes it completely defeats the objective belonging...like Achu says someone starts a thread about anything under the sun and suddenly there are 150 replies and 500 times people have read it...where as take the case of Achu's Sachin thread and his questions not too many people read it.

As for your thread, I read it and read it...by the time I decided to reply the thread was buried deep in page 89 so much for relevant issues...dont get me wrong this is not about banter or other things this is about how 10-15% of the members seem to be relevant and the rest are just hangers on.

I use this DG as a place to echo my thoughts and frustrations. If ppl engage in a discussion great, else I don't care. Also when I comment on someone's opinion in any thread , I try to use his/her name and engage in a discussion. It helps me. I suggest just chill and don't take this DG so seriously. We all have family, friends and sucessful careers so if in this DG we don't get a lot of attention, does it really matter that much?

its very easy avinash to say don't pay attention. maybe you should start paying attention yourself. becasue if all you can inferr from these threads is that a few people are cribbing about posts going unreplied then you really need to read the posts more often mate.

the point we have raised is very pertinent. good points and threads go unanswered even though there can be serious debate about it except when a heavy writes it.

either you understand this or let it be

achutank,

To be honest, I haven't looked at it from this POV till date, possibly bcoz I am one of the ( very very few?) fence sitters here, neither really in the GC camp or the SG camp, though of late I have begun get a little disillusioned that GC can change his ways. But if he can still take everrybody along and do thee balancing act and get a good performance out of the the test team in SA ( even if we lose its ok as long as we put up a great fight) I think he wud have done a good job.

ok back to the original point, you may have a vaild grouse here, I as a person will surely look out for this in the future and surely look to engage in discussion with everyone, not just the so called heavyweights. BTW aren't u and sudzz also heavyweights ( part of teeam of the century and all that hah:-))

And I am definetly a super heavy wweight ere, weight at about 235 pounds, there is no other category I can find myself in :-) :-) :-) Maybe thats why I don't feel left out at all, there is so much of me ( 235 pounds)

Ok enof non sense from my side, have a final in 1.30 hours and have hardly studied anything

Hey one more strategy, try supporting someone like Agarkar, infact there is no one else like AA. So he is your only hope. Post a few threads how good he is and we will miss him in the test series and he is a top notch all rounder ( and make some pseudo arguments, use selective stats etc, standard Dg tricks), thats it. That would be a longest thread in the DG histroy with every tom, dick and harry ( and sally) posting there!!

So way to get attention start a slew of threads in support of AA  ;D

*phew* all this coz of a thread started by me where you had cheerfully contributed as well. that bloody thread had about 2-3 ppl talking and that makes you feel side-lined?

as i told you y'day, you ARE banter-averse. what say, now?

well, i gotta say this repeated complaint from you as is as GRAND as any exit anyone could stage but if you want to learn some more techniques, please to contact me.

but seriously, where is this coming from? and what name calling? it was implied that i was part of the Society of Elitist Snobs (who likes puLikachal with Thayir Sadam, mind you) and i returned the favour. even stevens!

i am sorry that you still feel that you aren't listened to on this DG - after my return, i was quite happy to see people like you, inoc write a lot more. i am not a cricketing-intellectual who knows the technical nuances of the game (having never played it) to meaningfully discuss whethere SRT is going forward fully or stretching his feet sufficiently etc. i watch the game, enjoy it, read a few books about the various personalities and know assorted stats.

live and let live, will ya?

Mock-You clearly have not read the whole exchange between me and Achu I guess tht was because most of it happend in the Ind v/s Rest of SAF thread where I said that it is simpler to go and post in threads that you like and hope someone would read and respong.

It has got no bearing on my being or not being a snob etc etc...All I was saying is that there are some that are heard and some that are not... that is common group dynamics I understand that and not unduly bothered with it...but to Achu's point I still concur because it is a fact there is a Clique or a Group or a Faction that seems to own the DG.

I dont know what your opinion is but if two posters both of whom have over a 1000 posts feel that way then there has to some merit to it...of course it can be ignored and nothing would change....

well, i wasn't following the match thread and out of the blue, i saw achutank pop a vein in a thread i had started followed by your commiseration. guess those two posts had a context that i was unaware of.

as to your complaint, i really don't know what the solution is. but i think it is unfair to pick on people who are supposedly the "heavyweights" and make sarcastic references about them. first off, you complained the discussions were being diluted by banter/food and now you say no one responds. if you note, a lot of the "clique" interactions do involve banter or non-cricket talk. so pick your choice :-)

why do you feel so neglected? i thought you were quite active in the past 2 months or so and involved in quite a few discussions.

this is an informal gathering of people and interactions are voluntary and i really don't think we can dictate much. hopefully, your and achutank's concerns have been heard and will be heeded to.

regards,
MT
