Indian cricketers should practice Yoga: Baba Ramdev
« on: November 24, 2006, 06:24:17 PM »
JABALPUR: The Indian cricket team's defeat in the first ODI against South Africa in Durban stung Yoga Guru Ramdev who lashed out at the players for modelling and advised them to practise yoga to improve their concentration and performance.

"Instead of earning from advertisment and promotion of products like wine, cold drinks and garments, they should focus on their game," the yoga guru said here.

The players will be able to improve their concentration and performance by practising yoga, he said.

Disapproving sex-education in schools, Ramdev said that the students should be imparted lessons on Yoga and not sex.

The yoga guru rejected advertisements for use of condoms as a preventive measure in spread of HIV-AIDS and said that yoga provides answer to all problems.

With their flexible bodies, all you know they may be great fielders taking unbelievable catches and GC may like that becuase they may save (or score) runs by not even allowing the opponents to score like raina and kaif do.

And if memory serve me well (as in the Japanese Iron Chef shows), GC practises yoga too.

As for Baba Ramdev's comment, I agree with him except for the part about ads. As long as shooting for ads and the money that comes with it dont interfere with a cricketer's game, it is none of his  (or any of our) business. We Indians have to shed this idea that too much money is a bad thing. No one seems to complain when they are the rich ones. If you are really good enough in your field, it is OK to make money because of that too. Remember, these XI players are (in theory) the best XI cricketers in the country. So, nothing wrong in them making a little money too.

Knowledge when it becomes fully mature is Bhakti. To believe that Jnana and Bhakti, knowledge & devotion, are different from each other is ignorance.

I have to disagree with you on that.
We live in a country where around 70% of the population live off their daily earnings and fall into deep debt because of an illness in the family.
These players, playing a game unknown to most of the world, take up an enormous amount of financial resources which could have been of great benefit to a huge number of Indians.
The least we expect them to do is to play their guts out.
If they can't, they deserve all that is coming their way.

Baba Ramdev is criticizing the products being endorsed by Indian cricketers who unfortunately are today's role models. Tamsic products which generally hamper spiritual development (he should have added Ferraris to the list).
