Now Some Pakistani Controversy
« on: February 08, 2006, 01:02:02 PM »
While the Pakistanis are having a field day talking about the Indian team, we should scrutinize theirs as well....

Kaneria puzzled by omission for ODIs

February 08, 2006 16:32 IST

Is Danish Kaneria being kept under wraps in the one-dayers because the Indians are such wonderful players of leg-spin?

The bowler himself thinks he has had reasonable success against his sub-continental rivals.

"I have picked up so many Indian batsmen, including the success I had in India in 2005," Kaneria himself points out after being left out of the Pakistani squad for the first three one-dayers.

The leg-spinner is rankled though by the fact that he has yet to claim the prized scalp of Sachin Tendulkar, regarded as one of the finest batsmen in contemporary cricket.

"I do admit I am yet to get Tendulkar but I thought I had him in Mohali during the first Test of the last series but for the umpire," Kaneria said on Wednesday.

However, he has no doubt he would be in frame when the 2007 World Cup beckons in the West Indies.

"For one, I feel there is a role for specialists even in one-day arena and two, the wickets in the Caribbean are to my liking."

Kaneria's optimism presently is not shared by the Pakistan selectors. That he has been provided only 15 one-day games in the last four years also probably conveys the fact that the selectors are yet to make up their mind on him.

It is hardly a controversy. Dextrous, that is one misleading title.

Bouncer,
I'm helping create one, so we can criticize Pakistan about something like they criticize us for dropping Ganguly, playing Tendulkar, etc.  :P
