Maulana Yousuf
« on: October 17, 2006, 04:05:22 PM »
JUst started watching the Pak game (some crap about work and sleep not allowing me to watch earlier) and noticed another Anwar on field. I figured must be one of the youngsters in the team that have come right out of a madrasa and surprise surprise found the man with the maulana beard to be Youhana. From a devout Christian to maulana.

Was interesting to see a recent convert to be the most devout of the lot.

there was a recent TIME magazine article about that. recent muslim converts seem determined to prove that they are holier than thou. one has to wonder, though, that shouldn't sportsmen not have to do sport that sort of beard/be overly religious to the point that their cricketing careers will be affected? i thought there were certain exceptions to all this, which is why previous cricket teams from pakistan never wore religion on them on the field.

Even Saqlain and Mushtaq have similar looks. The latest buzz is that Brazilian midfielder Kaka has converted to Islam. I read about it in some other discussion boards. It seems his official website also says that. Not sure whether it's true or not.

Dex,
Whats wrong with Yusuf or Anwar sporting a beard? There is no restriction against that, right? IMO, it doesnt hamper his cricketing career nor is a problem for his teammates. And he has been very consistent after converting. So I personally think the PCB might encourage more of this ;D
