These matches show up on CricInfo's live matches column.

I was a little intrigued on whether there was any strategy at play here. Trust the Australians to do such stuff - they never allow practice matches against strong teams prior to the first test. In India of course we will schedule a game against the Ranji champs and BP XI before the first test.

Anyways, in this case, we have put some real fringe teams against SA and NZ. Half the people playing barely show up in Google searches  ;D So what's likely to happen -- SA and NZ are going to score at 8 or 9 an over with batsmen retiring after scoring 50 etc. Talk about getting time in the middle with a confidence pill.

For India, we divide up the team in two and play against each other. This seems the devil's choice really. If the bowlers get thrashed by our batsmen, it dents their confidence quite badly. As I type this Sehwag is decimating Pathan.  If the bowlers bundle out the batsmen cheap or throttle them, it does our batting no good. So what is the point of this  :o?

I am of course at risk for over analyzing something small here and taking a marked bent. But something appears a little misplaced to have India not play a minnow and split the team and have all others wreak havoc on minnows. Unless this is exactly the Australian ploy mentioned earlier - don't allow the opposition to play against good teams and cajole them into a false sense of confidence.

More than likely it is a complete lack of strategy in scheduling which could have unforseen benefits.

In the nets, I am sure Pathan bowls to Sehwag, and gets smacked a round a bit. And, when Pathan is on a roll, I am sure he has made Sehwag look silly too. This is just net practice in a public setting. No biggie.

Dinesh Mongia had pretty good figures, given than Dhoni destroys spinners for fun.

btw did you guys see the scorecard for Australia's practice game?

http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/iccct2006/engine/match/262407.html

one unexpected thing. Dheeraj Jadhav opened the bowling and took 2-50 in his 10 overs! he got Gilchrist and Martyn out.
a quick look at cricinfo shows that he has bowled a total of 30 balls at first class or list A level!

Bowling style Right-arm offbreak
