India-Sri Lanka one-dayers cancelled

Dileep Premachandran in Colombo

August 20, 2006

The three-match series between Sri Lanka and India, which has seen all of 22 balls of action, has been cancelled and will be played at a later date.

"After consultions with the Indian board, and bearing in mind the weather conditions, it has been decided to cancel the series and stage it at a later date," said Samantha Alagama, the media manager of Sri Lanka cricket. "It will be played some time in 2007, most likely after the World Cup. That exact dates and itinerary will be decided after consulting with the Indian and South African cricket boards."

A Sri Lanka Cricket official told Cricinfo: "The rain has already ruined two matches, and the forecast for the next few days is also not good. We have requested the Indian board to consider playing the matches at a later date when it's convenient for both countries."

The official expressed his gratitude at the Indian decision to stay on despite the South Africans packing their bags and going home, and said that the financial fallout from the cancellation of the tri-series would hit the board badly.

It has also affected Sri Lanka's preparations for the Champions Trophy to be played in India in October-November, with no other matches scheduled before the start of the tournament. Sri Lanka have to play qualifying games against West Indies, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh before they can take their place in the main draw for the competition.

I feel better now that the tri-series will be played after the world cup.  I was not myself over the past few days worrying over how my life would go on if this most important tri-series will never be played.  Now once the warm up for the tri-series is done in the name of the world cup we can all gear up for the big series of them all the tri-series.  Thanks to God for that.

This is great business for Sri Lankan board. They organize a tournament in the rainy season....and claim the damages from the Insurance companies.
I believe, the insurance companies are hand in glove with the Board too!

This rain has created problems to india on many accassions. Mainly it has never assisted us. Always it has rained against us. That's  our bad luck. Can any satatistics tell us about this?  One is WI test recently. And many such in past. Even SL / SA test series was through and rain started when we landed in SL !! I WANT TO KNOW, WHETHER IT HAD REALLY RAINED AFTER SERIES GOT CANCELLED. i AM SURE THERE MUST BE BRIGHT SUNSHINE ON 21 AND 22 !! JUST SEE.

WI are dead:
1) time for our revenge - we've brought them as far away from home as possible
2) australia are going to sodomize them

we on the other hand will enjoy a few good contests with Aus. hopefully we can win a game or three against them we will thrash them  ;D

We don't have a chance against Australia anywayz. So, in the 1st ODI, we must bat first, score around 200 and declare.

The Aussie psychos (Hayden, Gilly, Punter, Clarke, Hussey, Symo, Lee, McGrath) will be shell-shocked and will give up on life and retire

After that the WC07 is ours.
