Are we a soft nation?
« on: August 11, 2006, 01:45:29 PM »
I am really riled after the recent terror attack. While terror happens all over the world, our reaction and the way we as a nation manage it really really pisses me off.

1. Sonia and other UPA leaders talk about not targetting muslims in mumbai in investigations and the police commisioner actually gives number of hindus and muslims questioned in their investigation. We are basically trivialising the whole thing into a communal issue.

2. Various state chief ministers give clean chit to SIMI and other  muslim fundamentalist groups. Karunanidhi goes ahead and releases some terror connected main accused.

3. So far, the prominent voice coming from political leadership like Manmohan Singh seems to be "let us be peaceful and calm". While the need of the hour is to promise "justice and promises of catching the terrorists and bringing them to justice.

4. We hear news reports of how our intelligence network is compromised and infiltrated.

5. We hear news of how illegal immigrants from bangladesh are changing the demographics in various states and they are posing a security risk to India. We do zilch about it.

6. In all the hoopla, one things seems certain and that is, a. lack of political will to fight terror b. Inevitability of next terror strike in various cities of India.

Do all the above make us a soft nation? consider the following
1. In various social settings and social behaviour, we are in fact pretty cruel. People burned widows on pyre, burn women for dowry, practice blatant , inhuman treatment in the name of caste etc. When we can be so cruel in other areas, how can we be soft?
2. At the same time, imagine a airline hijack like what happened during BJP rule. Remember the mass histeria and media circus? remember how all the family members demanded release of terrorists so that their kith and kin can be released? remember the mass support for them? can we muster hard courage to behave differently if the same situation arises again? what makes us soft in such situations?

over to you guys

I almost prefer the "Wanted Dead or Alive" Dubya at this point. Atleast the guy stirred some * up. These SOBs are making a communal issue out of this and playing vote banks.

The best way to solve this is to hope someone close to those in power get harmed ( sorry, but if this * keeps up people are going to routinely get hurt, so why not these SOBs ?), then we might see some action. Or maybe even then the Chair will be more important - who knows ?

Cong govt. will act only when THE Madam, Sonia Maino, gets hurt. Until then, no matter what happens, govt will sit with their hands under their butts.

Remember the patriotic statements Singh made after Mumbai bombings? "We will not leave them". "Terrorism will not be tolerated". And what is he saying now? "Peace process with PAK must go on".

NDA govt was nothing better. At least they won a war and put army on PAK's ass for 6 months after parliament attack. My feeling for Cong govt is that they will absolutely not do anything until and unless someone from *hi family is hurt (by terrorism), because they are hugely dependent on Muslim vote.

sgusa , each time there is a terror attack and innocent civilians die, I tend to think, why not attack a political leader etc. instead of innocents. I know it is cynical, but a lot of people thought it would have been great if they succeeded if parliament attack succeeded in bumping off a bunch of guys like ramvilas pashwan, laloo and host of leaders from UP, Bihar & Rajastan.

Let me tell you a personal experience. Couple of years after the parliament attack, rediff ran a feature, basicaly finding out how the cops(who died in the attack) families are doing after 2 yrs. This report brought out how establishment never gave them what was promised after they lost their bread winner etc. I was outraged enough to call Shiela Dixit from USA. After using english accent and forceful voice  etc., her secretary connected me to her. I told her I am not a delhi citizen but feel strongly enough about it to call her and ask her about the compensation she promised. First she said she never promised anything. I read the time & date of the news report , quoted her own statement. Then she changed track and said something like "why are asking for money , after all they did their duty?". I was sooo mad at her, I simply told her, this attitude will not bring many defenders next time there is a parliament attack and many politicians might get killed and hung up on her.

It is a bloody miracle they didnt say this was a hidden threat and get after you!

And please add TN to the list. Been pretty much a Frying pan - Fire situation there for many decades now!
