so Pak wins by 341 runs, biggest margin ever by Pak against any team.
And to think they got it from 0/3 and 39/6. Eff you, Harper.
Congrats, Pak

SG is batting under immense pressure..very much unwanted by the coach...this is not a fair run..IMO.
That pressure can only be removed by SG himself by scoring a 100 or 2.

The player I am more upset about not getting an opportunity is Jaffer.  We are letting his incredible form rot.  The time in now, actually it was this series, but that's a bygone.  If he does not get an opportunity as a specialist opener now, we will never know what he could have delivered.  The glorious form does not last forever and it is the best time to blood a player-- now he has not played a match for some time and is bound to be rusty by the time the England seires starts, with no first-class games left in India.

Well... even if that's the case, that is not a variable that can be removed.  Gotta live with that.
its a matter of giving a fair chance to all players. And SG certainly deserves one.

I wonder if there's some truth to this:
http://indiauncut.blogspot.com/2006/01/lonely-planet-legend.html

“I don’t follow cricket any more. I know the result of every game before it starts.” I ask him what will happen in this series. “Oh, we have suffered because of the earthquake,” he says, “and you will give us reason for consolation.”

i feel SG deserves atleast one decent run in the coming england series....c'mon, its a question of shelving a player for good...he deserves one last chance, Kaif can wait another series.

It is not about Kaif. If we play a regular opener, then SG will have to play ahead of VVS or SRT  ???

and if we play 5 bowlers too, then SG will have to play ahead of SRT and VVS  ???

sahir i thkn trying out some youngsters might be a good idea, i would do it at home, not in the WI or SA (later this yr)
kaif for SG seems to be the obvuus way to go, bu that means RD will have to open agani, or play jaffa and kiaf wil l sit out and ppl will say "he didnt get a chance, he was good in 2004 he's test class"

yes blwe - let us say he gets the full series against England. DO u agree than he needs to average above 50 to retain his place ? AT least need one 100 to silence detractors. He cannot keep getting out in 30s for the full series. He has put his foot down, take the pressure and score a big one. Do you agree ?

the sad thing about Jaffer is, he had one off chances all the time. He failed against SA when India was at its lowest depth, with match fixing out in the open. And here, he doesnt get a chance, either here or on the  batting beauties.
IMO, he deserves a spot several times more than Kaif and definitely SG. At least, Kaif was dropped after having a very good series against Aus, no fault of the batsman.
Blwe, SG can never say he didnt receive enough chances. He should have seized his chances here; rememebr, he was doing well till he decided to pull Razzaq in the first innings. Whether that shot was played because of lack of concentration or not, it affected INdia's chances and IMO, was a huge factor in the dismal first innings score too.

I say play both Jaffer and Kaif at home against England-- drop 2 of Laxman, Tendulkar, and Ganguly.

We need to realize that we can revert back to the seniors if the new guys don't perform, but it doesn't work quite as well the other way around-- we'll keep saying, he didn't do too badly.

No problem-- if that what is needed, that's what should be done-- it's always about what is best for India.

ok so consider htis hypotehtical scneairo:
drop sachin/laxman. kaif comes in. is a roaring success.
what do you do on the next tour to WI? sachin/laxman have scored 100s very recently. keep em out of the playing 11?
say kaif scores 100,50,50. is this enough reason to assume that onj the tour of WI, sachin/laxman cannot score more than him?

Yup-- if Kaif is a success, I keep him.  It's just a fact that this is not the old Tendulkar we are talking about.  Sometimes it's difficult to get past the aura, the memories, the name, but it must be done.  Comparing the players today, I'm not convinced that we have a better chance when Tendulkar walks out to the crease.  Ditto for Laxman.  Give Kaif and Jaffer an opportunity, and if they succeed, retain them-- they'll only get better with more exposure and experience.  On the other hand, the seniors are clearly on the downswing and will only continue to get worse as time progresses.  Now is the time to cut the losses-- otherwise, we won't be able to do it for a long time since the next tour would be the Windies, followed by Bangladesh (a joke), followed by a tour of RSA.  We need to give the guys a run at home first.

Not to mention, Kaif, Yuvi, and Jaffer in the field would be a dramatic improvement.  We'd save countless more runs, take more catches, and effect more runouts-- that's for sure.  And what does not get seen in the scorecard are all the runs the batsmen won't take simply because the ball is going towards them.  That is one huge way to improve our pathetic bowling attack.

Quite frankly Yuvi didnt impress me too much as a run saver in this particular test. Of course I acknowledge his great contributions in the field in the first 2 tests.
