Star Wars on Speed
For the attention-span impaired, a British theater company that specializes in condensed renderings of Shakespeare -- it famously staged the Bard's 37 plays in just 97 minutes, shorter by far than the most recent installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean" -- is now taking on the imposing oeuvre of George Lucas. The Reduced Shakespeare Company says it has won Mr. Lucas's blessing for a 20-minute version of the entire 13-hour "Star Wars" saga. "This is my boyhood dream, in the space of 20 minutes I'm going to be Jabba the Hutt, Jar Jar Binks, Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker," said Adam Long, who will write and direct the piece and star in it, with two other performers. Mr. Long, who promises to include every narrative twist from the sprawling multi-movie epic, also threw down something of a gauntlet. "Everyone loves 'Star Wars' but I love it more than anyone on the planet." Which planet, he didn't say.
