This should be a multiple selection poll. The above choices are not mutually exclusive.

I THINK I married a "rich, fabulous looking, intelligent spouse who understands me and takes care of me".  ;D ;D ;D

Was she watching over your shoulders as you typed this ? ;D

hehe . here's kahlil gibran on marriage.

On Marriage
Kahlil Gibran

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.
Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.

here's his take on children. i often wish many indian parents understand this when i hear them complain about being 'let down' by their children.

On Children
Kahlil Gibran

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let our bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

i resent this remark. i always look women in the eye. chests are not that important. it is important to give a woman respect by not staring at her chest and by talking to her face.

Sorry mates for missing such a wonderful discussion. I was busy on a cruise through a lake and then onto the pacific on my company money. Casino games, tons of delectable food, open bar, plenty of sun, perfect temperature, clear skies, nice company.

Did i mention the open bar ? Ah the pleasures of starting the day with a bloody mary, progressing to a manhatten, dwelling on a gin martini ( the only martini I will drink!), nibbling on delicious goodies in between, and then winding the day down with a large mug of Mac & Jacks and some tiramisu to round it all up accompanied by some port :D :D :D

Well about 50 of us piled onto this big cruise ship. Just a small division event. MSFT has a lot of these things at various levels - company wide events to just the individual team events. Last thursday I went hiking with my team - nice workout and beautiful scenarie. We do movies now and then, and plan to go biking on a nearby island and do some whale watching ( not an euphemism :D ) soon. There was a company picnic 2 weeks back too. Not a bad summer :D

Let our bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

Mock, Iam not ashamed to say that these verses brought tears to my eyes...I was imagining what it would be with my sons say 10 years from now...and while what he says makes sense its going to be difficult to let go ...

here's his take on children. i often wish many indian parents understand this when i hear them complain about being 'let down' by their children.

Let our bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

well, i think the essence is to not force or EXPECT them to do what YOU want them to do. let them find their way in the world and parents should just be there to guide them and advise them but not make emotional pleas or threats.

the book 'The Prophet' by Kahlil Gibran is one of the best gifts i've got and i find his observations of the world through his verses very meaningful and practical. the whole book is there online and here is a link, if you want to read more. (though it is considered 'fashionable' these days to quote kahlil gibran, i still think there is a lot of nuggets of wisdom in there)
