yes, i am aware of the existence of this body-part and as to whether i am "offended" by the use of this word, well, considering the kind of things discussed on this forum, this shd fall under 'polite' category! 

but, i think the point is whether these are lines one would use in mixed company, in real life, among people you aren't familiar with and not sure if they would be offended or not. say, at a family gathering or at your office party. i can say that the men i know in real life wouldn't utter such remarks, at least in mixed company but times are a changin! US network TV is not really a standard to look upto, is it?

well, personally, i am not offended/affected by anything that is not directed at me. i am not swayed by the american public behaviour. and *my very personal opinion* - i find mainstream culture/TV in the US unbearable (it's prob the same elsewhere but i have been exposed the most to US TV/culture).

if it bothers me sufficiently, i always have the option of leaving this DG, don't i? i just made an observation why some may think that this type of talk may not be "proper". i do know many women who wd get offended by such remarks. in any case, this particular remark is rather mild, wrt many other sentiments expressed on this DG and shdn't really be worth so much scrutiny. i pitched in coz "ladies" were mentioned and i am probably the most active 'lady' on this forum.

you know the whole dg somehow missed the point. i don't get care if women find things offensve or not, the argument was not that. the way the word penis was used was against the standards we try to set for this Dg. and thats my only crib. the only place where i would not use natural language before a woman is wimbledon where they get paid less. everywhereelse in the kind of workld we live in and the women we interct with they have equal opportunities and equal rights, they smoke, drink and use profane language themselves. hence if we can be subjected to hearing four letter words around us in everyday life and there are no ettiquette for the amles there should be no ettiquette for the women. Holy COW!!!!! I think we should ban all real cricket and weekends. I was out playing cricket over the weekend (a very important match .. and I did decently ..thank you) and then the wife would not allow me to be on the DG since I had played cricket (yes .. hum Joru ke gulam hain .. and proud of it..if she permits me to be proud) and thus missed 2 whole pages of this discussion.

I am repeating what a lot of people have said here already but no one comes to this DG to be with family! Most of us have one already. We dont come here to be among colleagues or co workers or govt officials!

We come here to be among friends! and thats the standard that should be used. What words would you use in a mixed company in a bar! When we use words like beep openly (even with the C tranposed) ... u have a problem with Penis? Come now!
