Which is the most boring sport in the World?
« on: July 21, 2006, 07:19:13 AM »
By sport I mean a physical sport.

I just happened to watch some women's hockey (field) on TV between the Dutch and Germans (two of the best hockey teams in the world in both the men's and women's version) and man it was boring (imagine a field full of mini skirted women and yet I found it boring). ;D ;D

There was no skill, no flair, basically it was like a bunch of school kids playing the game for the first time.

Im sure there are many other such sports which are really never jarring

Ps: Iam not a sexist-I just find this specific sport very boring-Otherwise I'am all for women in sports (other than soccer of course)

One ladies' hockey tournament I enjoyed was the Commonwealth Games in Manchester where India won the Gold.
For me the most boringto watch is chess and to play is cards.

ever seen curling/broomball? holy cow wtf is that about?
i find hockey quite appealing i guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

that sport where the horses jump over hurdles is ridiculous. what an awful sport

then bowling is another boring as hell sport to watch (though it is fine to play)

F1 and most motor sports that lap. i like rallys of course and speed races.

take f1 for example

you see the first lap to see who is pole, watch them do the first lap so you see the circuit. then you might as well see the round-up at the end to see who has won and 1-2 replays of interesting moves and crashes. other than its like watching lap 1 multiplied 72 times.

also i feel motor sports are a waste of fuel especially in today's times.

another sport i find very boring is ladies cricket. i mean its not even boring, its ugly and ungraceful. women do not make good cricketers (and thats not an mcp statement mind you, just an observation, becasue the WNBA is real serious stuff as was a match between sanchez and graf.)

GRR. No one should bad mouth what is today the closest in spirit to the original sports - courage, life/death scenarios, skill, concentration, strategy and so many things play a part in F1 races!! Name one other sport that matches this ? Boxing ?? You dont need to concentrate for a long time and you get breaks between rounds. Contact sports of any other kind, same thing. You can always stop for a breather. Not F1. Anyone who has taken a long road trip can understand the skill and concentration needed to do a course ( not hold the steering turn left always crap like nascar) at 200 mph. Esp with other cars to be navigated and gained on!

achu: nothing personal, i just feel great admiration for F1 ( I do agree on the gas consumption part. But F1 actually helps the car industry use Gas more optimally - the engine tech, the electronics to monitor fuel & engine ops, tire and so on in today's car make the vehicles use gas better. All from F1 technologies

apart from fuelling technologies a big plus is the safety aspect which has contributed in a huge way to the car industry.
i find F1 to be a great sport to watch. I started watching in 94 when schumi got in a benetton and won two years straight and i thought hmmm whats so great about this sport. granted i was a young kid and didnt know a thing about the mind numbing number of aspects that make up the sport. then anyway a few years down the line i got into a go kart and i got truly hooked. when i was about 13 or 14 i took part in a go kart race of about 30 laps and i realized what immense effort, concentration and skill goes into driving a car. now imagine a 650hp engine under you, taking turns at 150mph and being one of 30 people in the world who actually has the skill to drive one of those things. and i mean drive, not even race. you have to be unbelievably fit as an F1 driver as every kilogram counts. You body needs to be able to absorb shock like you wont imagine. They say braking from 200mph is like slamming into a brick wall.
then there is the strategies involved with pit stops, tyres, fuel etc which totally captures my imagination at least.

in F1 every single turn, every tenth of a second lost/gained from braking late/early makes a difference to the end result. and that is not just some romantic notion of what a great sport it is. you can see in qualifying sessions how big a difference a tenth of a second makes.

anyway achu i know loads of people with similar views as you and i get their side of the debate as well.

Not the mention the fact that it is hotter than hell in the cockpit of one of those F1 cars. And the driver has to wear a bloody insulated fireproof suit (which is of no use if the car explodes!!). It is like being inside the furnace room.

look mates

i have read all about this. i follow F1 through out the season too. and am a big schumacher and kimi fan. and i thought i saw the duel of the century last year in the italina leg when schumacher tailed alonso etc etc blah blah blah

if you still ask me i would watch it? nan its too boring too watch, its great to read, talk and hear experts discussing it.

in fact just for the record we had done a campaign using F1 as a motif for a client. the posters gave very interesting explaantions about terminology and facts about the G-forces etc.

even chess professionals don't watch chess games!
yeah say when you are playing in a tournament and are bored you walk around the room look at a few other boards, just take your mind off your game but yes rapid chess is fun to watch, it's chess's version of 20-20  ;D and the official rules were such that you could "capture" the king, basically an uniformed check that the opponent doesn't take note of
boring sports - beeping golf, and baseball

i guess you are some kind of weatherman that judges wind movements/moisture content in the air by analysing the trajectory of a golf ball

yeah, because that is exactly what golf is about. nothing to do with whacking a ball hundreds of meters

Oh, come on, man.

First you ask the question. Then when you get an honest answer, you say it is way more than anyone wants to know.

In that case, why ask the question? Or were you expecting a lie for an answer?? ;)  At least now you know I don't tell lies...
