well, the rice should be soaked in sweet coconut milk so the rice shd be sufficiently moist.
careless whisper? ugh@sappy songs :-)

Now the sweet coconut milk would make it different..clearly, I had the not-so-yummy version. You know how it is with food.. you try it once and if it does not click, you are apprehensive.

since then ...couple of good ones on this 80s station.. New Order and Fine Young Cannibals...with U2, Genesis thrown in between.

dosa with curd rice is killer. have you tried it?? i had a south indian friend who introduced me to it. my thoughts were similar till i tried it.

the very thought is revolting to me! am not much of a curd rice eater - that may be one reason. why wd i want to dunk a nice crispy dosai that can be eaten with yummy chutney into curd rice? i think the dosais used for this curd rice fusion are those thick, soft ones.

i may try it some day before i die, just for the heck of it, but not any time soon.

i think the best thing to come out of thailand, apart for hot women, incrediby cheap massages while sipping margarits on the beach, and cheap as hell yet great otels is

COCONUT lichi icecream. my mom is a huge fan and we flew there for 3 days once just because we got a good fare and she missed it.

actually mock the dosas are the same. the crispy ones. i think the key is to have the dried fried chillies that you guys add to your curd rice in plenty.
though i must agree with the fact that dosa and chutney are a better bet.
have you ever been to pune? if you havent and do end up here, got to a place called vaishali on ferusson college road. it is a college hangout but the dosas you getthere are somethign else.

It is interesting ..how people acquire their tastes and pre-dispositions over food..
1. My friend from Bihar cant stand the sight of people eating Aam Ras with Rice...which is a common thing in Maharashtra and Rajasthan
2. The first time my Tamilian friend cooked "pineapple Kadhi" (and later "mango kadhi"), I was looking at her like she was crazy ...but once I tasted it...I was hooked.

losing,
we dont eat aamras with rice. with puris or poli, the ghaati version of chapati. i think it is different in that the atta isnt just flattened out. it is first flattened out then folder in half, then once more into a quarter cirle. it is then re-flattened into a circular form and then put onto the tawa. the effect is that the layers eparate on heating.

well, i still don't like fruits in my kadhis/daals/sambhars. the MOSTEST revoltingest thing i have EVER seen is this..now brace yourself....there was some religious ceremony at home many years ago and the meal was served on banana leaves. there was this priest who had a belly big enough to be a ghatam officiating it and he actually squished a couple of bananas into his RASAM and ate it...eeeeew!

that sight is still stuck in my mind! this big fellow with his HUGE tummy(of course, i was quite young and so it all seemed much bigger to me, relatively speaking) filled with bananas-squished-in-rasam. uggggh!

Of course, aamras/puri. Now isnt  Pooran Poli a Maharashtrian dish too.  My wife is from Khamgaon - she absolutely loves Aamras/Rice.

OUCH!

On Pineapple/Mango Kadhi..I think she does something (she squishes all the juice out, I think) that minimizes the "sweetness" of the fruit..so once it is in the Kadhi, it has the right blend of "fruity sweet" with the sour of the kadhi.

my SIL also makes something called the pineapple kurma. it is her signature dish and so i eat it out of politeness and smack my lips etc. and not think much about what's in it. taste-wise, it is quite okay but i am just squeamish about the concept of fruits in daal-like thingies.

that reminds me, during my last trip to madras, i went to Trident for a meal and ordered kulfi - and the bozos there, in an effort to westernize it topped it with some raspberry sauce and had some chocolate fingers sticking out of it! why wd anyone want to adulterate a kulfi, i know not! i promptly asked them to remove all the junk and bring me back the real thing.

LOL - i think we've successfully managed to hijack yet another thread with general food talk.

those people from khamgaon . oh what can i say of them. they are different i guess ;D ;D
durvankur is good. but if you want super authentic ghati food try shreyas.
 mock,
i assume you sil is a desi lady. imagine my plight when my host mom at college(we had to choose one and i think i chose a good one except for this) used to cook payasam or egg curry or biryani. now out of politeness i had to eat it but even i reached the end of my tolerance when she condensed already condensed milk and told me to come over for kulfi. now theoretically thats all it is but this tasted like my worst nightmare in food form.

Holy crap - I leave the DG alone for 3-4 hrs and it turns into an Aam riot!!  ;D

Speaking of fruits in dishes, ever had pineapple rasam?? Unbeliably good - the spice of the rasam, the tart of the tamarind and the sweetness of the pineapple just perfect together.

Grumpy is the MOSTEST revoltingest, vilestest personality - waiting for him to take his loot and disappear after the World Cup and i can go back to enjoying indian cricket again with full passion - right now, he is the big blotch and has robbed me of my pleasure. EVIL FELLOW - now, he deserves to be squished like the banana-in-rasam but instead of rasam, in sulphuric acid.

*phew* - with that refreshing thought to start my day, rest of the day should go just fine!  ;D

....and he wasn't picked for the test series! actually, i fear if H2SO4 is corrosive enough for my desired plan of action, considering the evil potency of the object to be eliminated. maybe, feeding him to the piranhas may be a safer bet.

or, i will just brew my own potion. *filled with wicked thoughts now*

now why would you throw that in ? can you and CP ever comprehend that people may form opinions without SG being the fulcrum? guess not!

ok- here's my statement for the record - jot it down. i DESPISE Grumpy and his ways INDEPENDENT of SG's presence/absence in the team. of course, am not denying that Grumpy's methods of dealing with SG had an effect on my opinion of him but that was just another instance of this evil doer's "process".

of course, i cannot enjoy cricket as much with my reservations towards the coach. is that so strange? ideally, i would want to back the entire team including the coach but now i cannot help wishing for his man's ouster and certainly, it affects my passion!

please spare me the patrotic spiel now - Prem, The Patriot, does enough of that already!  ;D

Can u make another independent stmt - given current and recent past form, do u want SG in the ODI squad? - this question not related to GC, just independent of GC.
(i can understand if it is not a clear cut yes/no...but then provide me with ur viewpoint anyways).

Mine: Current and recent past form: IMO, SG does not belong in the ODI squad.
I will stop with ur answer since I dont want to hijack this thread in the SG side. So, ur answer will be the last word in this thread on this subject. So, go ahead...

i still don't get why every topic has to end with a statement on SG but anyway....

considering the kaif's (his long rope can encircle the earth twice) and venu's are still around, YES, SG deserves a chance. but given the circumstances in which he was unceremoniously dumped, the only way he can rightfully make his way back to the team right now is by scoring big and not on based on any other factor. else, there will be tongues wagging till the next 3 generations of the Chappell family complete feasting on the loot.

does that answer you? now, can we get back to FOOD?

Ok, back to food.
1. what is GC's favorite food?
2. Name a vegetarian dish that SG enjoys but GC does not.
3. Assuming that GC and SG both like some foods, should SG be in the team?
