i like sweets with less sweetness (if that makes sense!).
Precisely, the best sweets are the ones with almost no sweetness..just a hint of it.
IMHO, the only place in India where the have mastered the "art of making good desserts" is Kolkatta. Sandesh, misthi dohi, assorted katlis - Kaju, badam, pista; the RajBhog..I can go on. They get it.
No rosogollah? Cue for CP to send death threats to LN.
No, I do not think Calcutta is the only place -- far from it. Try Rabadi in most places in Calcutta - it is a pale shadow of North India. It is true though that Bengalis consume an obscene amount of sweets. So everything is fresh and tasty. I think with mixing of communities, there are more and more North Indian sweets replacing traditional Bengali sweets. Mishti Doi is a dying art and is not served at weddings anymore.
Actually the menu at Bengali weddings looks more and more North Indian these days. Not necessarily traditional North Indian, but street food as well.

Of course, Rosogollah, Chum Chum are obvious ones..
but to your point about Rabadi in Kolkata, of course specific items are done well in specific places .. Rabadi (Meerut and Benares), Petha (Agra), Gajak/Til Papdi(Gwalior), Ghevar(Jaipur), Peda(Mathura), Mysore Pak(Chennai), Mava Bati/Kachori(Jodhpur), Lavang Lata(Benares), Phini(Hyderabad), Semiya(Hyderabad), Chikki(Lonavala/Khandala), Sohan Halwa(Ajmer), Moti Choor ke Laddoo(Jaisalmer), <add to this list>
..no one can match the quality and variety of Kolkata (BTw, I am not from there!).
