Congratulations! WOW!

EXCELLENT...I hope all 275 DG members (275 approx.was the WI target) join this thread and congratulate the team.
WELL DONE. GOOD LUCK for FUTURE.

SPECIAL WIN of series after 35 years...not many in this DG who were even born then...a few may have seen the win at that time...now hopefully we will continue to do well.

MOM and MoTS for dravid. WOW
proves how important he is to india and how the captaincy has not affected his performance which is a great boon for indian cricket as often we have seen captains underperforming due the pressure of their positions. double kudos to RD.

We won in Zimb recently. Hence this is not a first win out of sub-con since 1986.

Anyway, keep up the good work. Hope this Team Ind can give a tough fight to Kenya (when they will get a test status).

Call me anti-Indian. I dont find anything to cheer about.

i think most ppl here know that and are discounting the zim series victory as not worth mentioning but of course you are right india did win against the zim after 18 years that was the first victory outside the subcontinent. the pak win was the first win abroad since 1986.

to each his own. if you dont feel there is anything to cheer, dont.
but to deride the achievement, however small it is, and mock the team by comparing it to Kenya, is cheap.

considering that we did dominate 3 of the 4 tests and the final series scoreline could have very well been 3-0 if not for rains, I think it is a fair result even against a #8 team.

of course, this is not a result to go overboard about, but I don't think this is a result that has nothing to cheer about too.

We have certainly lost to worse teams abroad. IMO the Zim series win was important. This one is also important. Not just until we win against better opponents, but even then as these are stepping stones for taking us there.

Of course this does not mean that all is well with the team and I do not think many people really believe that all is well either.

I direct everybody to the following thread to keep things in perpective...

http://www.cricketvoice.com/cricketforum2/index.php?topic=3185.0

And today Lara has claimed that he is happy that he did not lose 3-0. West Indies maybe ranked 8 in the world, it seems that about 30% voted for a West Indies victory. This number was probably even higher before the series began. So there is definitely something to cheer about.

Do we still have things to work on as a Test team? For sure we do. Every facet of the game can be improved. This does not give the team the license to rest on their laurels. Their work will be cut out in South Africa.

Blwe torch. I need to ask a favor. Couldd you pleasse lend me that torch of yours? I need to go find those Ganguly fans that are hiding (you and Nambi being the only ones from that said camp to post here) in their holes. You know India under a new captain ...won a test series abroad.

Now the excuses (which this Nambi boy has already started) will begin. Oooh this is against a minnow. Pak is a minnow. England was a minnow. WI is a minnow.

For now lets just say thankyou Dravid. Thank you Chappel. Thank you More. thanks for providing us with this win. Its been a long time coming!

Kudos to Sreesanth as well. He picked up early wickets in the 1st and 2nd innings and bowled very well in this match.  Hope Munaf, Sree and Pathan can continue contributing well for India in the future.

Totally agree! It was a great comeback after the mauling in the first test. He bowled really well. The two standout wickets for me were Lara in the 1st innings and Ganga in the 2nd..

but you can't ignore 35 years wait. We won only one series against Zim. Why didn't we win the earlier ones? Don't think those Zim teams are better than the current WI team. Oh well Pak drew the series against the same team. We suck as tourists and please keep that in mind when you make comments such as above.

Consider the disappointment in not winning tests 1 and 2 due to rain...  In that context, winning the last one, thanks to Dravid and Kumble and a supporting cast is commendable at a time when everyone would have been rather keen to take the return flight.

The WI arent as bad as they are made out to be.  So this series win, the first against a major team, while touring, in 35 years is commendable.

Dravid is one heck of a player and captain.

Great win .. for the first time in the series there was a wicket where the bowlers could hope to have a say ..

I say great, because it has taken the monkey off our backs .. of course, sterner tests lie ahead, but the confidence of winning can never be discounted ...

DONT FORGET, IT WAS THE ODI SERIES VICTORY AGAINST WINDIES LAST TIME AROUND THAT TRIGGERED THE RUN TO NO.2 AT THE WORLD CUP!!!

Finally.... a non-minnow, non- sub-continental win in almost sub-continental conditions with the rain keeping off and the bowlers sticking to their task of batting and bowling :)

Kudos to RD....After the SL series, it has been a constant, win some - lose some syndrome...hope the team keeps winning from hereon

CONGRATULAIONS TO MY TEAM!!!
on a side note, congrats to nambi, cp and whoever else are alrerady bringing in SG, his influence on this team, the fact that we ONLY beat the Windies at home after 30 years blah blah blah into this thread. thanks guys. way to take the jam out of the doughnut. good to see our factionalised arses are strong enough to remain that way rather than be unitedly happy. unitedly happy?? who the hell would want that in this right now?
so i hereby take the oppurtunity to thank the following people:
1. John wright for coming to india and instilling in us the sense of team
2. SG for making our players realise they arent lame and can win somewhere where the pitches arent patta tracks
3. kapil dev for swinging away
4. the great ranji for his batting
5.kiran more for causing such deep divisions in india
6. srt
7. sunil gavaskar
8. ajit wadekar.

please add on so we will have finally acknowledged everyone who might have had anything to do with this historic win.

ATLEAST AFTER THAT WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY SAVOR THE VICTORY INSTEAD OF SAYING "BUT sg DID THIS" OR "RD HAS CAUSED THIS" OR WHATEVER ELSE FOLKS LIKE NAMBI OR CP MIGHT WANT TO DO TO DEFLATE THIS BALOON.
SMITE AWAY.

Well said Blwe...And CP, w/o queering the pitch for what is a creditable victory, I would sincerely refrain from giving any credit to More and GC...More for the simple reason for ensuring that we do not have a better margin of victory by pulling out a surprisingly inform AA....and GC who was hiding behind statements of "victory and defeat is not everything"....the team , mate, the team on the ground made it possible...efforts from RD and Kumble in batting , HS and Kumble in bowling ably supported by the rookie bowlers....

All in all a good victory, long overdue...Kudos to the playing XI

Sir...if not posting here after an Indian victory is any indication of patriotism...it is a bad parameter to use....

I, for one, do not intend to lose sleep and post at 2.30 AM...but that does not make me any less an Indian Cricket fan as the rest

Aachu I live in an upscale hole. I have special provisions in there for my repeated jumping syndrome.. and I always wear a helmet! So quit worrying about me.

And guys when did I bring SG in? I mentioned the Ganguly fans who were (with the exceptions of one or two) missing in action as soon as India actually achieved something good.

Ravi is already building the ground work for undermining this victory even when he posted he mentions "almost Subcontinental conditions" ... yeah right!

And why would you not give credit for the win to the coach and the team management? If they can jump on GC for losing India the ODI series why not give the credit when we win? Cant have it both ways?

K-Slice is too confused. So am not even going to respond to him.

Now to my fellow hole-dweller
first up blwe

you have to give CP that torch. in that hole he can't see.

hence he would n't have read the countless posts (Like mine in http://www.cricketvoice.com/cricketforum2/index.php?topic=3916.0http://www.cricketvoice.com/cricketforum2/index.php?topic=3916.0)

and how many times CP dear i have told you not to jump to conclusions, jump the gun, jump up in excitement, or just jump. you know each time you are bumping your head on that low ceiling of your tunnel vision.

Actually, I don't believe More & GC had much to do with this victory. Infact, they have done everything to prevent a more credible victory line...like a 3-0 series victory, etc.
It reminds me of a dedication written by an author for his newly published book...." ....and finally my heartfelt thanks to my wife, without whose help & suggestions I would have finished this book much earlier!" :)
