Top cop, Dalmiya likely to face off
- By Our Correspondent

Kolkata, May 30: The ensuing Cricket Association of Bengal elections, scheduled in July await a battle royal with commissioner of Kolkata Police, Prasun Mukherjee all set to challenge Jagmohan Dalmiya for president’s post.

Though Mr Dalmiya’s rival faction is yet to declare it officially, it was learnt from reliable sources that Mr Mukherjee has made up his mind to take on the incumbent. The police commissioner’s presence at a meeting of a section of former Bengal cricketers here at the Lake Club a few days ago, raised the speculation about his possible involvement in the forthcoming CAB elections.

The meeting, attended by Sourav Ganguly’s elder brother Snehashis along with former Bengal captains Gopal Bose, Sambaran Banerjee, BCCI media committee member Raja Venkat and others took a vow to clean up the CAB administration. But between the lines it had been decided there that Mr Mukherjee would be their man to have a face off with Mr Dalmiya.

It is also learnt that this time the opposing group will field an entire panel — likely to be announced shortly — against the ruling group. In the last few years, voting took place only for the posts of president and two joint-secretaries.

Mr Dalmiya, meanwhile has met state sports minister Subhas Chakraborty. He is also preparing his strategies for the occasion. Last year, former police commissioner Dinesh Bajpai had contested against Mr Dalmiya but managed only 13 votes out of a possible 121.
