We are open to negotiations - Sahara chief
Nagraj Gollapudi
February 4, 2012

Subroto Roy, the head of Sahara India Parivar, has said that he is not "rigid" but open to negotiations with the BCCI. Sahara withdrew as sponsor of the Indian cricket team and also its ownership of the IPL franchise Pune Warriors. Roy said he is open to negotiations because his primary concern is the welfare of the players of the Pune Warriors.

"We are not rigid," Roy said, in response to whether Sahara would be willing to re-consider its decision to pull out of sponsorship of the Indian team and withdraw from the ownership of the Pune franchise. Roy insisted the Pune franchise should participate in the IPL this season regardless of the decision taken by Sahara today. "I am really worried for one thing: that my players should get to play. Money I'll take care of, I am not worried about money." Roy however was not clear as to whether that was referring to the team playing under new ownership. He did, however, say he had asked the BCCI to scout for a potential corporate who would be interested in running the franchise.

Asked if Sahara would be back if the players are not transferred and the team is not sold to someone else, Roy said: "It does not depend on me alone. It also depends on the BCCI. We are there to support them. We are there to adjust many things."

Roy said though the decision was an emotional one, he and his senior managers were in constant touch with the BCCI top brass. In fact, Roy himself had called up N Srinivasan, the BCCI president. "I had never spoken to him previously. It was the first time I had called him. I told him as a head of a company and you being the head of the BCCI, it is my responsibility to let you know of our decision," Roy said.

Srinivasan said he was not the head when certain decisions taken were not in favour of Sahara. "I told him in plain words. These were the difficulties right from the beginning. I know you were not the president from the beginning, but today you are. If you do not listen to us, then it is difficult to walk ahead," Roy said.

In their initial response earlier today, the BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla had said Sahara's decision was "unfortunate" but would react properly once they get an official communique from Sahara.

I find every business in India shady. I agree , Sahara is Very Very Shady . Only business i did hold with very high respect was the Tatas but now they also have started looking a bit dodgy.

as opposed to what, mallay's business? i think we should debate the points raised by sahara, most of which seem legitimate.

i don't see anything wrong from the Sahara side...
they have been getting the raw deal from BCCI since long, despite coming to BCCI's rescue, when it failed to find any team sponsor.
BCCI has been acting unprofessionally since long....and it is good to see a Franchisee turning the tables on them for a change.............they deserved it.
I am only worried about the fate of the Pune team....in this fall-out
