They will replace Vinay Kumar with Ojha and Dhoni with Saha.

The rest will remain.

Varinder will drop himself to the middle order and make Saha/Dravid open. he will have a terrific 2 years at #5 (all at home) before retiring.

Ashwin will come back, not Ojha. Ash will take a 4fer in the second inning after being useless in the first.

Rohit has absolutely nothing to gain from playing this Test match and I hope he doesn't.

Not sure about Ashwin's bowling but he can be a good #6 one day.

Just wondering. Why do we play a test when the series has been decided? Why not go the NBA or baseball route? In the play offs teams play a best of 7. In that scenario once a team wins 4 games, the series is over.

Now we have a pointless test 4. Lets suppose our batsmen get out of their funk score 600 plus runs (double hundreds by Sehwag and SRT) and crush the Aussies by an innings (I can aways hope, can't I ;D). Why does the stat in that test count the same as test 1,2 or 3- when the series was still in the balance?

well you are really asking a bigger question - why is there no context to Test cricket?

It doesn't make a difference if Aus win 1-0 or 4-0 or 2-1. The incentive system is wrong.

BTW guys remember that we also whitewashed Australia at home last year  ;D

since the 4th Test is meaningless shouldn't we use it as batting practice for the engsturs?

Kohli, Rahane and Rohit should all be played

India must drop Laxman, Vinay for two spinners: Jones
IANS | Jan 20, 2012, 09.43PM IST

SYDNEY: Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones feels India should drop veteran batsman VVS Laxman and pacer Vinay Kumar to make place for spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha for the fourth and final Test in Adelaide starting Tuesday.

Jones said Indians have to take risks and rely on the top six batsmen to score runs on a flat batting track. He said India needed to pick five bowlers if they had any chance of taking 20 Australian wickets.

"If I were India, I would drop Laxman and Vinay Kumar. India will need three quicks, and should look at playing their two spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha in Adelaide," Jones wrote in his column in the Sydney Morning Herald.

"India need to take risks for the Adelaide Test if they want to win. They need five bowlers to get Australia out on a flat deck in Adelaide."

Jones feels India should take harsh steps if they want to regain the No.1 spot in Tests.

"India still don't get it on how to win Test matches. They need bowlers who bowl over 145km/h - unless you are a cagey bowler like a Zaheer."

"If you look at recent history, with the success of the West Indies (1979-95), Australia (1995-2005), England (since 2006) and this Australian team, all have three or more bowlers who bowl over 145km/h. That's why they have been winners," he added.

Jones said it was high-time India stopped relying on the seniors and needed to look to the future if they are to win back the respect that the team has lost after the drubbing in England and Australia.

"This Indian team craves respect, but the way India are going about it, they will lose more than just respect. The Indians look tired and too slow in the field. They must stop idolising their greats, and start looking to the future," said Jones.

what are we telling this guy to bowl i wonder? - speed, length, short of length?

67.5
Yadav to Clarke, FOUR, Clarke's got to his century as well, off goes the helmet and he kisses the crest. A wonderful, momentum-wresting innings from the captain. He got to his century by steering the ball to the third-man boundary
67.4
Yadav to Clarke, FOUR, that's a long hop and Clarke slaps it off the front foot over midwicket for four more, terrible length on a flat pitch

also point to note is the way clarke has accelerated through the innings - his strike rate has gone up every 20 runs, it was near 60 when he was on 50 and it was near 70 when he reached his hundred and now it is over 80 when he has crossed 130. fantastic man.

My God.....what a pathetic display of ineptitude! :(
It is almost an insult to self..................
They should let some junior team..or India-A ...or Rajasthan ( Ranji Champion) play these matches........India doesn't deserve to play 'Tests'...as of now.

Seriously .. Rajasthan would have been better than these morons :)

This is the most lackadaisical sporting performance I have ever seen.. we used to lose overseas but not in such an embarassing manner.

I have changed my mind.. all of them (RD, SRT, ZK, VS everyone) should be sacked. period. Start with a brand new 11 under someone enthusiastic .. and since the next test series is at home, that may not be a bad thing.

Really sad !!

Hilfenhaus to Sehwag, 1 run, dropped at midwicket by Cowan, was clipped in the air off the pads to his left, he went down towards it, got both hands to it, but could not hold on

what next - even Bangladesh has had such a bad record in recent times - 8 in a row for a team that was No. 1 just what 6 months ago

not one century in an entire series - when was the last time that happened

aah here's a straw to clutch for the die-hard indian cricket fan, instead of highlights we should telecast continuous action replays of this today evening:

The swoop
Gautam Gambhir had not had much to do at silly point, but when Michael Hussey pushed Ashwin firmly to the right of the close-in fielder, he reacted with an alertness that had eluded India for much of the series. Stretching to grasp the ball on the bounce, Gambhir flicked it back to strike the stumps in one smooth motion. Hussey, who had run with the shot, suddenly had to back-pedal, and was comfortably short of his ground.

gambhir has going for him the fact that hes a dogged trier. he'll probably save his place with a score in this match.

sehwag is in trouble. i was thinking him in the middle order was an option. but he should probably be dropped too.

for all the tough talk by Ganguly on this tour, he and that twit Ravi Shastri were happily talking for 15 minutes today about whether Sachin will be back for the next Australia tour in 3 years.

Ishant probably needs a new bowling coach. if Eric Simons can't solve this problem in 45 Tests then he has failed. Ishant is bowling really quick and looks unlucky, but  he is incapable of bowling full. and it looks like a technical thing, not a mental one.

Umesh and Zak have had a good tour. no complaints really.

Ojha is the #1 spinner. I am unconvinced by Ashwin. in this match it was not the fields that were the issue.

Not much to say about the big 3 and Dhoni. heads are lined up on the chopping table.

Dravid after that speech seems to have decided that his future career is in writing only.

At this point of time i am almost willing to accept that these matches were fixed rather than believing that our players are incompetent

indians are stupid in general. dont seem to realize that north-south and east-west doesn't make a difference

Are you calling me Indian Cricket ? Wish i was, the team would be in much better shape as I would have brought Ganguly as the manager/coach/chairman of BCCI and also possibly the opener in the team.

Anyway that is not the case , but  i appreciate you holding me in such high pedestal. If i get some time out, i will send you close up signed picture of my feet - you can keep it with you for inspiration.

so you prefer getting raped from eastie and westie crooks? Does midwest count? Which position do you like it best?

Are you calling me Indian Cricket ? Wish i was, the team would be in much better shape as I would have brought Ganguly as the manager/coach/chairman of BCCI and also possibly the opener in the team.

Anyway that is not the case , but  i appreciate you holding me in such high pedestal. If i get some time out, i will send you close up signed picture of my feet - you can keep it with you for inspiration.

delusions of grandeur are good. It helps pass the time while you are getting raped by the eastie and westie crooks. From your Ganguly obsession, does it mean that you prefer your rapists from that particular state? In that case talk to Bukharibai ..... though both of you might have to fight over who gets to be the victim :)

I might also be able to get you a 10 minute free pass to watch Ganguly practice the parachute routine - you can try to implement that in your exercise routine
