Just read on cricinfo that Swann and Anderson will be included in the list of probables for IPL5. Wonder what happened to the team that was against IPL? Will Stauss stop these two from playing in IPL? Will they be not selected in ENG test team because they will be IPL-corrupted? Hmmm....

ha ha .... wonderful timing. Nothing like calling the bull* out for people blaming everything on players wanting to play IPL. I have always said. If you want players to play tests, make them pay same amount for tests as IPL. So if you can pay Gambhir $2.2M for one aussie tour (around 45 days) then he may choose that over IPL.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_IPL_Players_Auction

In the list of players, who were transacted upon in IPL4, I found following Englishmen who were able to successfully hide from Cern's and Vaughan's eyes:

Player from IND series
Kevin Pietersen - Deccan Chargers - $ 650,000
Stuart Broad     - Kings XI Punjab   - $ 400,000
Eoin Morgan      - Kolkata Knight Riders - $ 350,000
Paul Collingwood - Rajasthan Royals - $ 250,000

Other Players
Owais Shah         - Kochi Tuskers Kerala - $ 200,000
Dimitri Mascarenhas - Kings XI Punjab - $ 100,000
Michael Lumb - Deccan Chargers - $ 80,000

Broad and Mascarenhas didn't play because they were injured in World Cup. Pietersen didn't play because of Hernia.  Collingwood didn't play because of knee injury. If they were not injured they would have definitely wanted to play. That's my assumption.

So for Strauss and Vaughan to gloat that their team played better because they didn't play IPL is not entirely accurate. 4 of their test players wanted to play in IPL. To them it didn't matter what effects IPL would have on their batting/bowling. I would venture to say that the reason it didn't matter was that a 45 day event can not destroy how a person bats/bowls.

Morgan was in fact adamant in playing in IPL, so much so that he was ready to revolt!!!

Quote
http://www.intcric.com/2011/05/eoin-morgan-determined-to-continue.html

England batsman, Eoin Morgan, is firm on his decision to continue playing in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), despite the fact that he may lose his place in the national squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka, to be played on May 30, at Sophia Gardens.

"It was always in my schedule to play in the IPL and it's done far more for me than playing in the (English County) Championship", said Morgan.

"I knew that I was taking a risk in going to IPL, but for my personal development as a batsman, I know I have done the right thing", said Morgan.

And now 2 more guys want to join IPL. What does that say about the notion that ENG players don't want to play in IPL? Meanwhile there was Ravi Bopara who openly skipped IPL so that he could find a place in ENG test squad but alas an IPL player like Eoin Morgan was selected in playing 11 before Bopara. What does that say about ENG team management's contention that IPL is harmful? Is that how they reward a player for skipping IPL?
