I am sorry I cannot help you but here is what happened roughly in sequence in the mark up to the IPL draft and immediately after that left Ganguly in the state of BEGGING.

1)   Ganguly  and bunch of other players had their base prices up which they had a say in and only agreed to it based on their confidence levels to be picked up and upon sending feelers.

2)   Draft happens and Ganguly had no takers not on one day for two days straight where all the big guns from India get picked.

3)   Reports (One such from L.P Sahi a SG backer was posted on this DG) that SG was snubbed by all ten teams based on what they believed in, that at this stage SG is a liability and comes with a baggage.  (Sahi directly quoted in that article to the effect that “SG is not a good team player and do not seem to take things sportingly “ as was told to him) and hence do not want to risk having a player like that.

4)   SG was shocked and did not accept that and I cannot understand why?

5)   In the aftermath of the auction SG takes it upon himself and calls franchises that included Kochi, Pune and few others which were reported in the media at the time.  After that there were reports doing rounds that Kochi might rope him and could use him as a player/mentor role if it passed the league rules.  IPL commission was even ready to make concessions if there was a taker for SG but Kochi flat out denied the reports that they indeed are looking at SG.  So the issue died down for about 9 weeks after that despite SG’s efforts to call teams personally.

6)   In the end after 9 weeks and a dismal start where they almost lost all the games to that point and are out of the race Pune roped in Ganguly which in my opinion would not happened had they been in the hunt. It was ploy in my opinion to get a crowd puller like SG and restore whatever they had left of the lost season and salvage something to give back to their fan base.  So in other words Ganguly was signed in essence to be a circus clown if you know what I mean.

More later...

Hope that this thread is complete now.
