Dear Santa,

Please let me win the toss and bat on Boxing day. As you know,my bowlers are not yet fully fit or in great form and they really could use couple of more days of rest; yes, couple of more days.

Our batting will have to take care of the lack on the bowling front. So, I hope we put up a huge total.

Dear Santa,

I wish that Zaheer tears his hamstring and Dinda loses his passport.

Shame on Irfan for wasting his Santa quota for the first.

Dear Santa,

Please let me bowl in a relaxed way, so that I can keep playing and not have to limp off the field.

Umesh Yadav takes 2 in 2 overs. Aus 55/2 after 18 overs
R Ponting gets hit on helmet on the very first ball off a short ball off Yadav.

I thought that was out. Hussey clearly was not.

I love how Ashwin made Siddle hop in the last over. Hope he gets into the rhythm for the rest of the series.
Now Ashwin was turning the ball all afternoon, just not getting the line and length correct most of the time.

wasting the second new ball now..all over the place especially Yadav , bowling on both side of the wicket.
MSD's defensive fielding is not helping either.

WV, I think RA was very nervous ..he was chewing gum even while delivering the ball. Never seen this before. During the tea interval someone must have pulled it out from his mouth . After the break he looked serious and bowled with more control.

Could be. Not unnatural at all.

How did you make out he was chewing wile delivering the ball ? I would find it hard to notice
that.

Anyway, I hope he can do well!

Bowlers disappointing on the first day and MSD's captaincy is more disappointing. After taking 6th wicket instead of crowding Siddle and Haddin , MSD still had inside and outside fields ( did he give up taking the wicket of Haddin already ?)  :icon_scratch:
Ashwin's lack of control was embarrassing for a spinner. May be too nervous.

Surely Aus bowlers cannot be as bad in 1st innings.

i dont think it was a bad day at all for India. we are very much in the game and have a new ball with which to go at them full steam in the morning. we only used 4 bowlers with all the pacers bowling 20+ overs.

it is tough to go full intensity at the end of the day - especially when two of the pacers are undercooked going into the series

Aussies are being sneaky c*nts. lots of snarky comments in the Channel 9 box - the pious sages have begun playing the victim over the DRS issue.

it was pretty clear to me and most everyone else that Cowan was out. however hotspot did NOT show it. why didn't they show snicko???

Cowan had the temerity to comment on it in the press conference - saying "you saw the replays and my reaction - you join the dots". yeah right.

and what about the plumb lbw - Zaheer had Haddin at the end of the day. yes DRS would have helped us on this but i think we have taken a fair decision overall to not use technology. hotspot is shady, and using hawkeye has its issues.

also i thought this from Sambit Bal was spot on...

It is a sign of the times that even rookies fancy bouncing him these days, but even a second-ball knock to his head from Umesh Yadav seemed to work to his advantage. For a start, it seemed to have focused him. If anything he was deceived by the slowness of the ball and had finished playing the stroke before the ball found his helmet. More crucially, it fooled India in to setting the bouncer trap. Instead of trying to nail him leg before with full and straight deliveries, they peppered him with short balls and Ponting fed on them with relish.

Whatever. With or without DRS, it is still an equal playing field. Both sides can pay the price for bad umpiring. Unlike the case,
where one agrees to be honest about catches and then flips.

This has to count as funny. A batsman who gets a bummer of a decision and expresses his disappointment in some way is punished. But a batsman can go to a press conference and imply that the decision was wrong. Not that similar stuff has not been done before.

No...it is not equal playing field. Once again 2 wrongs don't equal to 1 right. If all others agree, then BCCI should not be bullying others to accept it. Anyway..98% correct is better than 95% correct.

Imagine , someone like SRT or Sehwag getting out to Hussey like decision

I don't think Cowan crossed the line, unlike Dhoni's comments in the Windies.

what is there to imagine? not as if umpires screwing up is a new occurrence

i dont think BCCI is bullying in this case

someone should also look at the competence of umpires in general. you telling me umpires like Benson, Erasmus, Dharmasena, Jerling are 95+ percent?

The ICC buffoon Richardson spoke about umpiring accuracy a few years ago and it was carried on CricInfo. He claimed reviews had shown umpiring accuracy was 95% + blah blah blah. I pointed out then that the basis for the percentage error rate was unclear. If it based on every wicket that has fallen, it is misleading as outfield catches and bowled etc. leave no margin for errors**. If it is every appeal too it is misleading as a bowler could half appeal with the fielders not even joining him. If it is strictly on LBW, close-in catch with the pad possibly involved, and caught behind appeals where the batsman stands his ground, I would be surprised if the accuracy rate is even 80%.

incompetency of umpires makes it more important for Technology to be part of the decision making  ;D

I am totally for technology, but also empathize with the Indian view.

India should immediately agree for the use of all the technological aids in ODIs and T20s and announce it requests a 6 month period of post-use review in these games where the umpires, players and equipment manufacturers may be called on immediately after game to debate the accuracy and better understand how all this works. All reviews are to be open, and the technology details of the equipment providers also needs to be made open. Following this 6 month review period, each of the full ICC members can vote on the use of the technology in test cricket, with a majority vote being binding for all the countries.

Until then lets not be intimidated by Australian commentators and players.
