So, Ganguly will do the TV commentary first and foremost, as that is his highest paying professional job. When is not doing commentary, he will be playing for Bengal, which means he won't really play the full season. He will play as and when he is available. Somebody tell me why that is a good thing for Bengal cricket? What kind of example Ganguly and CAB are presenting to the Bengal domestic cricketers?

1) It is okay to play cricket for Bengal even if you are 39 years old and severely unfit, as long as there is Ganguly in your name. Moral - change your name to have Ganguly in it.

2) By even talking about selecting Ganguly to play partial season, CAB is saying that personality pooja is still the top draw in Bengal cricket. According to them, it is more important to have Ganguly in you team (whenever he is available) even if he takes up a spot that could have gone to a young, upcoming player. Moral - if your name is not Ganguly your place in the team isn't safe (even if you are a wicket-keeper).

3) By allowing Ganguly to play partial season because of other commitments, CAB is telling it's domestic players that it is okay for them to pick and choose the games they want to play. If someone wants to go on vacation in the middle of domestic season, by all means take your vacation. Moral - don't worry about cricket calendar, just do your own thing. CAB is very understanding.

I don't know who is more shameless. Ganguly for still injecting himself in Bengal cricket because he has this obscene wish to play in IPL5, or CAB for allowing Ganguly to keep manipulating them. Ganguly's retirement is turning out to be worse than Afridi's retirement. At least Afridi wants to go back to the national team, here we have Ganguly who wants to go back to domestic team because he wants to play for a domestic club team, when no club wants to touch him with a ten-foot pole that is used for opening up clogged sewers. My god....

My humble request to Ganguly --

Dada, please give it up. Even a non-believer-in-you like me wishes the best for you, but that does not include you picking an automatic spot in Bengal team at 39 year age when younger players have to fight it out to get in the team. Dada, you know you won't be helping the team by playing a few (or even half) games in the domestic season. You know that your team mates will b***h about you behind your back because they won't like you having this entitlement to walk into the team at your pleasure when they have to slog it out. They may be nice to you on your face, but behind your back they will b***h. That's not good. Not good for you, not good for the team.

Dada, I know that you know that everyone knows that you want to play in IPL5. You think you got a raw deal in IPL4, so once again you want to be ready for IPL5 by using Bengal domestic team as a stepping stone to get match fit. But think about it, dada. Do you really think your fellow Bengal players are dumb? Don't you think that they too can see what others can see, that you are using Bengal team as a stepping stone for your own personal gain, not to help Bengal cricket? You think your fellow cricketers are going to like it that you are using them as stepping stones? I don't think so.

Dada, do you really think that at 39 years of age, you have anything worthwhile to offer to Bengal cricket as a player? Really? Do you really believe that in your own heart? If not, then why are you sullying your own name. If your intention is to serve Indian cricket or Bengal cricket then you can still do it without playing it. Look at Kumble, Srinath, Venky. They are serving cricket in different roles. You can coach, consult Bengal team. You can be India's gift to Elite Test Umpires, should you choose to do so. You can serve in a lot of ways, but playing isn't one of the options IMO.

Ultimately, you'll do what you think is best for you. I just hope you don't end up damaging your legacy with cricket fans in general and your hardcore fans in particular.

It was not missed. It just happens to be no news for the likes of Ganguly. He has always been the one to take away spots from aspiring and deserving candidates and this news is no different.

Even the gangulians have accepted how pathetic their hero is so there is no news to share here ...

we will now just wait for them to blame Chappel for this too

By rubbing shoulders with Ganguly, the youngsters of Bengal will learn some tricks of the trade...that will be valuable experience.
I appreciate this decision.
The Cricinfo guys are running short of inspiration, it seems.

1. "rubbing shoulders with Ganguly" -- That's kind of a gay comment. Are you saying that Bengal players have this habit of rubbing shoulders of fellow players?

2. "youngsters of Bengal will learn some tricks of the trade" -- Tricks like a) picking and choosing games at will, b) using parachutes for fitness, c) not doing 12th man duties, d) escorting the ball to boundary, e) being lazy in the field, in general, f) encouraging personality pooja, and g) Greenwickititis.

3. "that will be valuable experience" -- Quite valuable, I must say. Most valuable for Ganguly since he'll be trying to showcase himself like a cheerleader to get into an IPL5 team. Not valuable to others since they won't know what to take away from Ganguly's antics.

4. "I appreciate this decision" -- So you do.

5. "The Cricinfo guys are running short of inspiration, it seems" -- In fact, this was not even on Cricinfo main page. This was put on India's country page. So if you think CI are short of inspiration since they didn't put this item on their main page, I would agree.

They will learn some lessons all right. They will learn how to cheat. They will learn how to wine and dine with the board president to get into the team. They will learn how to run away from the fast bowlers.

Yup they will learn a lot. No wonder Bengal has been losers so long.

You "hope"..... means even you are not sure if Bengal players are smart or not, or why Ganguly is doing what he is doing; but you still "hope". Well, ummeed par duniya kayam hai. You must hope for the best, but should also prepare for the worst.

I am happy that he is playing.......as an old fan.

Your last line sums it up well.
I really don't know much abt the Bengal players, whether they are smart or dumb.............and neither do I know abt Saurav's agenda.
I am happy that he is playing.......as an old fan.

Ganguly's presence will boost Bengal: Raman
November 01, 2011 20:51 IST

Bengal coach W V Raman on Tuesday said they will gain immensely from the presence of iconic left-hander Sourav Ganguly [ Images ] in the side as they begin their Ranji Trophy Super League campaign against Gujarat from Thursday.

The former India skipper, who retired from international cricket last year, has given his nod for the entire season, something that has boosted the morale of Bengal who struggled to make the knockout stage last season.

"No point looking into past season show. I prefer to stay in the present. Sourav brings loads of experience in the team. Youngsters can learn a lot from him," Raman said.

Manoj Tiwary will lead Bengal, which boast two former skippers in Ganguly and Laxmi Ratan Shukla, and the former Tamil Nadu coach said being consistent will be the key.

"We have a good blend of youth and experience this time and I am confident of a good show this time. Our focus will be to maintain the intensity throughout the season. Home match or away, there will always be pressure in this level of the game," he said.

The Bengal side had a training session in the morning, even as Ganguly did not turn up.  <<RJ: already, Ganguly is showing his intent!? not attending training sessions. BLWE, is this what bengal players are supposed to learn from him?>>

Meanwhile, there are indications that players including Ganguly and the coach did not like the pitch on offer for the Ranji encounter.

Having drawn flak from India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni who had termed it an 'ugly wicket', Bengal players also suggested to have a bit of grass on the strip. <<RJ:  ;D  ;D  so maybe THIS is the reason why Ganguly didn't turn up for training!! bengal players want grass but since Ganguly is allergic to grass (Greenwikititus), he couldn't possibly practice there.>>

The Eden last week hosted an ODI and Twenty20 during India's series against England.

Ganguly wanted a bit of extra green on the pitch( he doesn't think much of the domestic Indian pace attack, even after retirement  :D  ).............ofcourse, the Bengal players followed suit...............they are quite smart, it seems! They know that it is best to rely on Dada's judgement.

So if you think CI are short of inspiration since they didn't put this item on their main page, I would agree.

what is wrong in being gay?! :)......................and coming from you, it sounds rather ironical.
Did I say there was anything wrong in being gay? Why did you get so defensive? What is it, huh? I'm not surprised that you create irony out of nothing.

I hope the Bengal players are smart and learn the best lessons from Ganguly..
You "hope"..... means even you are not sure if Bengal players are smart or not, or why Ganguly is doing what he is doing; but you still "hope". Well, ummeed par duniya kayam hai. You must hope for the best, but should also prepare for the worst.

and regarding the 'gay' bit......well, i am not defensive............i am just  surprised that you unfailingly could conjure something gay out of nowhere. :)

Could you please " come out" and say it once and for all whether you are ashamed or shameless about being Gay?
Dude you seem to be the one with chronic Homophobia suggesting a suppressed issue perhaps?

I really wanted Blwe to answer but seems like his "Partner" has jumped to his aid.
Blwe and me partners? Dude i thought you were a little nutty but i am now convinced you are Certifiable. Maybe you are mentally challenged and thus handi-capable. its ok CP. get well soon.

How do you know Ganguly asked for extra green on pitch? He wasn't even there for the practice! Did he ask for grass in his dreams?

Here's some more news on the so-called green pitch request from Bengal players.

http://www.telegraphindia.com/1111102/jsp/sports/story_14697410.jsp

Excerpt:
However, Bengal’s preparations have been dogged by the controversy surrounding the condition of the Eden Gardens pitch.

On Tuesday, a visibly disturbed Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary was seen walking up to the curator Prabir Mukherjee during the practice session. But Mukherjee refused to pay heed to the captain’s suggestions.

Manoj thereafter spoke to the coach, who had a long discussion with Mukherjee. It was learnt that the Bengal thinktank want a bit of grass left on the pitch.

“We have a good attack… So it will not harm us if we have a green surface,” said a source.

---------

Surprisingly, Ganguly's name is not mentioned in "Bengal thinktank". It's just captain and coach. Is it another snub to Ganguly, this time from Bengal team itself !?

At the same time I dont care if someone is gay, bisexual, trisexual or whatever. to each his own. Just wanted to point out how retarded you are. but then again you know that already. wont be answering anymore of your posts on this thread lest you actually jump of a bridge. It seems, he is even doling out batting tips to the opposition Gujarat team, who are suitably inspired to play in his august company.

1. You are living in a time-warp. SG ain't part of nothing, leave alone part of national cricket team's think-tank. Once you wake up from the dream you'll realize that SG is a nobody now.

2. Sure, he can be part of bengal's think-tank 'cause the administration obviously believes in personality pooja.

3. To say that SG is part on national think-tank so bengal comes later is an extreme disservice to bengal team. SG is retired, so he ain't part of no think tank. If fans like you believe that bengal should come later for SG, then surely bengal deserves what it gets.

By the way, playing against Gujarat Ganguly scored just 34 runs from 63 balls and got out to a 30 year old off spinner, while bengal captain scored an unbeaten 120. I'm sure Ganguly was a big help to Bengal team.

Well, that is upto the Bengal team anyway.......and he was/is very much welcome.
He may not be part of the Indian 'team' think tank....but as the TD of cricketing issues of BCCI, he is certainly part of the Indian cricket think tank, as I had mentioned earlier.

I had to ..... your butt is now as big as the drain pipe that your idol Gaddafi crawled out of!

Why bring me in, when you have your own marina trench to keep you happy... or is it now being 'liberated' by Bush?

When did bush "do" you?

When did Qaddafi use you for his pleasure?

Really? When? Where?

All I knew from the Western Capitalist press was he had a harem of bodyguards... But I'll take your word for it... You should know... You were there giving him the 'bunga-bunga'...
