BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has said that master batsman Sachin Tendulkar should not play in the Indian Premier League if his name was under consideration for the country's highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna.
"In my view, Sachin Tendulkar should not play in IPL if his name is being considered for Bharat Ratna," he said.
"When players like Sachin Tendulkar are sold and bought, it really hurts. A player plays for the country and not for companies," the Chief Minister said here last evening at a function to mark the completion of 75 years of Indian Hockey team's victory in the Berlin Olympics, 1936. (IMO India's greatest sporting achievement ever forgotten by us all)
Chouhan blamed the IPL for `ruining' the sport.
He also said that Hockey legend Major Dhyanchand deserved to be the first sportsman to get this highest hononur first, though Tendulkar too was a highly talented player.
Dhyanchand was the first sportsman in whose name a postal stamp was issued, he reminded.
Appealing to the senior players to promote hockey, Chauhan promised all help from Madhya Pradesh government.
He felicitated veteran Hockey players and Olympians Gurbakhsh Singh, Mukhben Singh, Inamur Rehman, Charles Corneous, Ajit Singh, Ashok Dhyanchand, Virendra Singh, Ashok Diwan, Syed Ali, Harcharan Singh, Mirranjan Negi, Jalaluddin Rizvi, Sujit Kumar and Samir Dad.
The senior hockey players presented a memorandum to the Chief Minister, urging him to recommend Major Dhyanchand's name for a posthumous Bharat Ratna.

Ummm.... has SRT stopped playing for the country? If not, then how come IPL stops him from getting any national award?

Aah ... so irrespective of whether he shuns IPL or not, he never played for the country. Shucks.

People should not have to play by someone's wishes. If the Bharat ratna committe find him deserving they should give it to him, if not they should not. Simple.

What conditions are to be met to make a team 'India'? And how is the present team not satisfying those conditions?

It is wrong for an elected representative to voice his opinion, but when a Bharat Ratna endorses colas and credit cards, it doesn't cheapen it? Who is to say that those same companies are not surreptitiously behind this move? After all what was the sudden need for the Home Minister (with serious question marks on him) to write to the PM to include sports as a category?

The Bharat Ratna has been awarded to a cretin like "Dr." MGR, a Western media boosted ghoul like Teresa, a random freedom fighter like Aruna Asaf Ali (nice lady but pales in comparison to at least 50 others who gave their lives for the country), a tyrant b***h like Indira who has ensured we remain 3 decades behind where we ought to be, her "pilot" son.

I certainly think Tendulkar does not belong on the list.

Sanjeev Sharma, Rajinder Singh Ghai, V. B. Chandrashekar, Narottam Puri are forgotten heroes of my childhood. Sreesanth (for classical dance), Harbhajan Singh (literature and language), Sharad Pawar (animal husbandry), Raj Singh Dungarpur (where has that video gone of his giant unit?) are strong contemporary idols who deserve to round out the list. Let us honor deserving people first.

Google search saves the day  (watch between 2:16 and 2:30 to spot the Brahmos). Not only is that a Bharat Ratna, it is also a Nishan-e-Pakistan.
