Asian World Cup bid damaged - Mani

The ICC President Ehsan Mani has said that the late submission of the Asian bloc's compliance book has weakened their bid for the 2011 World Cup.

Mani told PTI: "Their [Asia's] strong case only weakened because of late submission of compliance book. Nevertheless, if Asia doesn't win the right for 2011 World Cup, I am sure they would get the 2015 World Cup."

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have made a bid and were allowed an extension until April 21 to set out their proposal after they had difficulty hitting the first deadline in March. They are up against a joint Australia-New Zealand bid for the tournament. The host will be decided by a vote on April 30, but Mani added that it would be premature to speculate which bid was stronger.

"The voting would be done from 13 countries and seven votes are required to win the rights," he said. "Asia already has four votes and they require another three. But Australia and New Zealand's bid is also strong and 100 percent complete. They have also guaranteed 100 percent tax exemptions."

Mani also confirmed that Asia had promised tax exemptions from their respective governments for the event. The ICC has faced problems with tax exemptions for the Champions Trophy from India and it required personal convincing by Mani and Malcolm Speed to get the event going.

HOw can late submission *damage* the case for the bid?? Either it is a good bid, in terms of content, or not. If they 'allowed' the submission, then its not late, is it?

Or, are they judging the organising quality of Asian boards by the time they took in putting the bid together :-) Sounds ridiculous....but probably true with the kind of cricket administrators we have all around.

worma,
you are misinterpreting-- read the statement as we have decided to award Aus/NZ the 2011 WC and Asia the 2015 WC, and this is our ridiculous justification ;)

I agree. Thats what it is, 2011 Aus/NZ and 2015 Asia.
I'd like it to be 2011 Asia, but it may be fair that it goes to Aus/NZ - anyway bit more variety, so fine.

fineleg, there are 4 test playing countries (out of ten) in the subcontinent. With that in mind, shouldnt the WC be awarded to India and Pak? SL and Bangladesh are not capable of holding the tournament by themselves.

There is some rotation - fair enough. As I said, I'm happy if it comes to Asia "more" often, but if it is some equal rotation, then maybe alrite.

great. just when the warnes and mcgraths, gilchrists and pontings retire in 2011 we go give them home advantage.
the Asian boards' argument that every 3 world cups should be hosted in Asia is quite valid. 4 Test playing nations, an overwhelming majority of fans and revenues. It is not like one country is exclusively hosting it, like SA in '03 or England in '99 (ok Kenya and Zim and hell even Holland got some games I think but this is different). This is 4 countries hosting it at once.

I guess the ICC will make a 'fair' decision.

Yep, as 'fair' as the Aussie chicks :)
BTW, I love those bikinis - lets go play in Aus/NZ to see those babes and bikinis.

Unless India can allow bikini sunbathing during ODIs. But, will hot desi chicks turn out even then? not Aunties, plz.

OK. To be honest Warne has already retired. Home advantage in ODIs is grossly overrated anyway. I am quite happy allowing Australia and NZ to host the WC in 2011.

Home advt is valid in ODIs. Players from the subcontinent definitely have to go through a perdio of adjusting to the bouncier tracks.
