Indians happy with more cricket

Indians happy with more cricketNew Delhi: In the wake of the recent outburst by Australian captain Ricky Ponting about excessive cricket, Team India members have no complaints about the amount of cricket they play in a year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has conveyed this to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“The BCCI assures us the players have no problem with it,” ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed was quoted as saying in the latest issue of India Today . “They have said their schedule is okay with the players, that they are happy playing more cricket.

The players don’t accept that they are playing too much. Some countries are going close to the limit of one-dayers. India is stretching the limit of ODI cricket and we just need to be careful it doesn’t load its one-day programme too heavily. ” he added.

On whether India’s insistence on a fixed home season and more lucrative bilateral series was contrary to the ICC’s Future Tours Programme (FTP), Speed said:  “No, this isn’t new nor is it a threat of any kind. Other countries have fixed bilateral series outside the previous Five-Year Programme like the Natwest series in England.

Other countries have also fixed bilateral series outside the previous FTP.”
