I am probably in the minority who believe in Murali Kartik.   He was never tried or given enough chances when he was at his best.  He is a left armer in the classical mould with a lot of variety and a very good arm ball.  Ofcourse this past season was his worst as a professional and that is when he got oppurtunities when they finally decided to take AK out of the ODI's.  Hope he will build up on that 8 wicket Ranji haul and recuparate from this surgery.  Good luck Murali.

i believe SG messed up his career as murali was not one of his boys . murali had an independent streak not tolerated a lot by sachin and saurav

Buddy boys, I think simply More is learning Dravid-speak. About time too. This Murali Karthik stuff is nothing more than nuetral, nice and right stuff - encourage everyone!!

Tombaan, have to say Murali karthik, the first time I saw him surprised me! In that, I had never seen an Indian cricketer with such an independent and seemingly i-dont-care-a-damn-for-ur-approval type attitude w/ respect to his fashion and what not.

Do u folks think M.Kartik was more of a rebel or Ramesh Rotund Powar is more of a rebel with red glasses, ear studs etc. Both very "colorful" characters!

gourav, jaat,

I dont think Tom says he was exceptional or that any veterans failed to read his genius. Away from his talent etc, all he's saying is that it was hard for some to come to terms with his brash-looking and obviously independent-ish attitude. Surely thats  not too far fetched? India is still only learning to accept individual behavior w/o raising eyebrows. And why does someone have to be exceptional to sport whatever hairstyle he or she wants or chooses to wear 10000 beads?
A very explicit idea of hierarchy still permeates society and the cricket team may well be suffering from that too.

As far as I am aware, India have had her share of mavericks since time unknown.
Murali Karthik is nothing new.
We have had Mustaq Ali, Faroukh Engineer, Salim Durrani, Solkar...and not to mention the Nawabs, who had their own unique brand of demeanor

murali karthick a rebel?!!....haaaah! ;D ;D ;D ;D
just by coloring the hair like a clown and bowling dibbly-dobly balls, you think he becomes a rebel?!!
That too with a cause!!? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
When he walked his so called 'rebel' walk, it seems he suffered from piles! :P
He will certainly put the genuine rebels to shame!

I always particularly loved the look on his face after getting belted all around the park and hit out of the ground on occasion.  He always gave the impression as if he has desperately unlucky, as if the runs were scored off the edge of the bat.  Something like, 'I beat you in the flight, but it looks like you got lucky and hit it out of the stadium anyway.' ;D
