Lets learn something from Jason Gillespie
« on: April 18, 2006, 09:43:08 PM »

Let us (or rather let the Indian cricketers) of today learn something from Jason Gillespie...

1. Commitment (night watchman, but did not say my job is over, next morning)
2. Application ( 6+ hours, 295 balls and counting)
3. In TEST cricket, it is PERFECTLY FINE to be dour and boring - infact, that can bring u success.

REBBBEAATU...
In TEST cricket, it is PERFECTLY FINE to be dour and boring - infact, that can bring u success.
In TEST cricket, it is PERFECTLY FINE to be dour and boring - infact, that can bring u success.

The days of Mohd. Amarnath and RJ Shastri grinding the opposition out (along with viewers, but hey!!!)...thats Test cricket for folks who like the real thing  [god]

I want to see INDIA bat out 2 full days of first Innings  - 2 full days, and wear the opposition out.

But, our batsman need Commitment and Application for that, not just flamboyance.

Akash Chopra, Wasim Jaffer anyone?
The wall is still wall, but a bit more flamboyant and slightly riskier wall now.

I would much rather we have the consistency of winning Test Cricket and lose flamboyance - grill and win it...and if needed grill and draw it...

Rather than lose like at Mumbai or Karachi or Blore (a while ago)...

I dont mind if a 4 match series is won 1-0, I dont want a 1-1, or a series loss.

AT THE VERY LEAST, play conservative in First Innings, and rack up a huge score at whatever RR. In 2nd Inn, play according to situation.

Why is it that playing for a draw leads to defeat mostly ? (in modern TEST cric)

Was listening to a local radio station (Aus) yesterday and heard Jason Gillespie's aunt talk about his 201 not out.  She was saying how is a down to earth bloke, freindly and hard working and the whole family is absolutely over the moon with his recent innings.  Jason's dad who has never spoken on any radio station/TV spoke for the first time about Jason's innings on channel 9.  It will now be interesting to see whether he would be considered for the Ashes series.
