For all the rightwing zealots, facists, skinheads, proto-nazis and assorted other wierdos, here's the good news. A party has just been launched in India, who claim to represent you guys out there and take you to places that even the BJP/RSS failed to. Formed by a group of ex-students of IIT Madras and assorted other Economists and members of the intelligensia [all of whom are either settled or working in the US, and have, needless to say, high caste backgrounds], they will be fighting their first elections in the TN Assembly.

Myself and Colonel both have had the misfortune of spending some time, at different points of time in our lives, under the same roof with one of the founder members [who will remain unnamed], which is how I came to know of this new development!

PS: For the first time in my life, I'm feeling better off being in the US! I just hope I'm not around when the whole *house goes up in flames!

Really? IIT Madras? which year, etc?

I did know of this website a while ago thru some friend, and checked it out. rather lame it seemed. lets see how far their right of right ideology can take them. Not far I believe. There is a reason why India has long been able to maintain its essential fabric of secularism and tolerance.

I took a cursory look at the web site and heard of it before now. What is so wrong about them? So far, din't see anything right wing about them..why is fever so pissed?

And what is this "better off in US" comment? what *house are you referring to?

just went thru the site myself .. found it too verbose and difficult to comprehend ... but even i failed to notice anything extremely right wing in the contents ... but then again, maybe its just me unable to figure out what those guys wanted to say

i dont remember the details now, but they do have some jumbled up notion of going back to our cultural roots or some such thing - with most ordinary folk, that doesn't bode well. Going back in time should only be for distilling the spirit of what was good. But hardly every t,d,h can do that. Not sure if they still have it up on their site, but a few months ago, one of their writeups touted 'dand' (the hindi word meaning punishment?) as the necessary and missing ingredient in our approach to government. It was all very childish. Thats why I'm skeptical of these chaps.

Is it the trend of the modern to denounce the Vedas as something outdated? When will the Gita be outdated thus? Thank God I am old.

I heard about this party. I dont think an extreme right wing party will be able to sustain itself for long. BJP isnt one because while their ideology suggested so, their tenure in power suggested otherwise. Everyone in India is free to express himself. That is they beauty of a true democracy. That is why we have so many parties with so many approaches. We have the extreme left, the parties for the minorities, the so called secularists, the right wing parties all catering to the different preferences we all have. It is absolutely hypocritical to criticize one such party as that for the skinheads, yet vociferously defending the ideologies of another.

Actually, you are right Toney, if people can find offense with rasgulla word or commie word etc., why not ban this thread? It is indeed hurting my feelings. I am Hindu who respects and woships Vedas and this thread seem to mock vedas.

I wish Fever came out with this thread earlier. You see, I spent a fortune recently on books on Vedas, a commentary on the Gita, a few books on the Upanishads etc. If I had his valuable opinion, I wouldnt have wasted my money.

it is well spent even if not read, for he gave business to publishers and will help in spreading the Vedic knowledge. I feel there is significant misinformation & misunderstanding about Hinduism and every cent will help. Current state in India is such that simply claiming your are Hindu is not the 'IN' thing.

flute, I know how that feels. Some of my friends are the same (there are the other extremes too). It is also considered criminal to shout out loud that you are Hindu.

tombaan, I intend to read every bit of it. My father is the one who inspired me to read these books and I have some decent guidance available to help me out. I am sure no one can read and understand those texts alone.

Flute, tom cant stop thinking of those Springer type women. Looks like he has a few fantasies to fulfill here.

Tom, I prefer meeting the women in their own homes where they are more comfortable. So I'll keep travelling while you attend to the devotees who come to the ashram.

Whatever lil I know of Vedas, it has nothing to do much with "Burai mein achai dhoondo" . In a perfect spiritual plane, Upanishads extoll you to be detached from both good & bad..so "Burai mein achai dhoondo" doesn't arise.

Also, for whatever it is worth, your study of Vedas and your following the Vedas is supposed to make you stronger, not milder or weaker. Swami Vivekananda famously said, Vedas are the only scriptures which described God & soul as "Abhi" that is fearless. If you really get into it, you are supposed to become 'Abhi', the fearless one.

I was impressed by what the Gita offers. Obviously, I know very little yet. And I definitely wouldnt have thought more into certain aspects of life, had I not been suitably guided to those facets by my instructor (an American born swami who understands and respects the Hindu scriptures more than most of us do). This is where my quest begins. I think the Vedas wont disappoint me either.

Without getting into any specifics on the facist elements attached on this thread here is my take. Any one born Hindu should never ever make mock of the VEDAS. For starters none is even qualified to even comment on them. I think this DG and the participants should primarily confine themselves to discussion on cricket and other forms of entertainment IMO. There is nothing wrong with that.

My Point is if someone really knew VEDAS (which I doubt it here on this DG or for that matter in most places of discussion that caters to entertainment) they would never be mocking it anyways. Hence it is wise to not touch up on it at all. I as a HINDU feel that way.
