Will Mr.Gavaskar answer???
« on: April 26, 2010, 02:34:14 AM »
In the semis when Rahul edged one to Sachi and stood his ground , Mr.Gavaskar was furious with Rahul and had the gall to say that Rahul needed to walk rather then wait for the 3rd umpire decision as he has played with Sachin for 14 years and he needs to take his word as final. Ofcourse when it was proved  that Rahul was right in standing his ground , Mr.Gavaskar was fumbling for words . Yesterday the same "Paragon of virtue and honesty" Tendulkar gloved one of Raina to Dhoni , he simply stood as though nothing had happened . If gavaskar had been in the commentery box then he might have accused Dhoni and Raina for having eve appealed . I have nothing against Sachin . He is as honest as anybody else in the team , but why this Double standards , Mr.Gavaskar. :evil4: :evil4:

Maybe the answer lies in IPL Kochi shareholding

where is the double standard besides your imagination?
gavaskar wasn't present in the commentary box and hence couldn't ask sachin to walk................what is the point of guessing that he wouldn't have asked?

well, that was catch in my books with sachin's fingers under the ball and the ball did not hit the ground - 99 out of 100 catch referals have gone in favor of the batsman as it is impossible to use 2D to judge a 3D catch.

From what I saw the ball did hit the ground and it was conclusive enough for umpire to uphold that the bastman was not out.  Now Gavaskar wanting RD to leave was another story when it was clearly visible the ball did hit the ground.  That was clearly not out.

I did not watch the match..but going by the discussions here, would presume that Gavaskar said whatever he did before the replays..so , much ado about nothing thread yet again

But the point is SMG should have waited for the replays than suggesting that RD should leave taking Sachin's word, playing with him for 14 years blah blah before even the judgement came in via the replays that RD was clearly not out and then he could not say a word because he was caught on the wrong end of it.

Exactly!!! If the logic is that batsman should take fielder's word and leave, then RD should have taken Ponting's word once-upon-a-time and left. RD didn't then, and he shouldn't have now. These are the situations for which 3rd umpires are appointed.

The thing is that while commenting in IPL, these so-called commentators try to be pro-active and say things they would not otherwise. They try to give their so-called opinions when a few minutes of wait is more prudent.

Here is what Cricinfo has to say:

The injury added to insult

That fiendish Rahul Dravid. As if denying Sachin Tendulkar a double-hundred six years ago wasn't bad enough, he had to go and stand his ground after Tendulkar caught him at slip in the semi-final, inflicting in the process a wound to his hand that needed five stitches.
