Anyway, nice score in a dead match..

This may be the last time one sees him bat !!

Wishful thinking? ;D

From CI
"
"Hopefully, I'll come back again for KKR next year," is what Ganguly just said.

Ganguly: "We've disappointed this year because I felt we had a good team this year to go all the way. We let ourselves down in a few crucial moments. The Kings XI game and the Bangalore game in Bangalore, we should have done better. We'll turn up better prepared and hopefully we'll give the crowd a better tournament next year."

In an article in Tehelka, it is mentioned that SG has approached fellow Bengali , Sahara chief to find some kind of opportunity in Pune franchise and has also asked other team members to leave KKR.

There are other  lateral movements afoot — unfortunately motivated more     by a need for secure pastures it seems, than a consideration for the game. KKR   skipper Saurav Ganguly, for instance, has apparently approached fellow Bengali Subrata Roy for possible absorption in the Sahara Team. A top KKR official says Ganguly has also advised many of his fellow players to jump ship. The rumour mills say Yuvraj Singh has also sent a similar message to the Sahara chairman.

I am sure Aggy has better figures than Vinay Kumar and Praveen Kumar :D

PC actually started doing reasonably well after being picked for the Indian team.
I would be surprised if that is the case. How about some data ? I remember someone also talking as if Vinay did not deserve his place but he was the go to guy for Kumble ( Bowling death overs normally 18th and 20th) in most of the matches and as you can see BRC did not give too many runs in last 5-6 overs except in few matches

Oops ...I was wrong. I did not realise that Agarkar had managed to outdo himself and take his ER to 9.22 - higher than PK (8.76) and VK (8.4).

However, on current form, I would have Dinda over either.

Riding into the night

Bangalore, Mon, Apr 19 2010, by Saurabh Somani

It was a foregone conclusion even before the Kolkata-Mumbai clash that Kolkata had less chance of making it to the semi-finals of the IPL 2010, than Laxman Sivaramakrishnan missing an opportunity to spout 'Karbonn Kamaal Catch' during every match he commentates on.

However, once the match was done and it was officially confirmed that Kolkata would not make it, one still couldn't help but feel for Sourav Ganguly and his men, who for the first time in IPL history played for a large part of the tournament as legitimate semi-final contenders.

Only two teams got more points than them, but five teams finished above them on the points table after the Net Run Rate calculations. A sixth place finish in an eight-team competition is not something that would bring a lot of cheer, but the Knight Riders can look back on this campaign as their best amongst all IPLs so far.

They had finished sixth in 2008 too, but were nowhere close to a semi-final spot the way they were this time.

What hurt Kolkata most was the lack of a genuine strike bowler. Shane Bond would have been expected to fill that role, but while he didn't do badly, he didn't perform outstandingly, and outstanding excellence is what Kolkata required. Amongst the eight teams in the competition, they were the worst bowling side, when wickets, strike-rates and economy rates were taken into consideration. Their top wicket-takers were Murali Karthik, Ashok Dinda and Bond, who all took 9 wickets each. Every other team had at least two bowlers who took more than 10 wickets, except for Delhi, who had just one. And for Delhi, Amit Mishra has taken 17 wickets, while Dirk Nannes and Ashish Nehra were unavailable for large chunks of the tournament.

On balance, Kolkata did not deserve to make the semi-finals, given their patchy form, but what will hurt them is the knowledge that they had the personnel to finish in the top-4, and if they had done some things differently in some matches, they would have been there.

Their captain shone the brightest for them. After an indifferent start to the tournament, Sourav Ganguly not only rediscovered his batting mojo, but rolled back the years in the field too. His fans watched with incredulous wonder as he pulled off one brilliant catch after another. He not only was his team's highest scorer but the man with the most number of catches for Kolkata too.

Ganguly's IPL was neatly divided into two halves. In the first seven matches, he scored just 153 runs at a strike rate of 96.8 - the equivalent of scoring about 22 off 23 balls everytime he walked out to bat.

In the next seven matches, he roared back with 340 runs (with one not out) at a strike rate of 130.3 - the equivalent of scoring about 57 runs off 44 balls. He more than doubled his runs tally in the second half of the tournament, and amped up his strike rate by a big margin, to emerge as the clear batting leader of Kolkata.

He might not be back next year - and then again he might be too - but if he isn't, this IPL isn't a bad way to sign off. It has shown that there is enough fight left in Dada to master the newest form of the game, and it has provided yet another instance in a career littered with such, of Ganguly fighting back after being written off.

If the fire still burns in 2011 as strongly as it did now, he will be back. If it doesn't, he has left his fans with happy memories.

SG, YS, few KKR players (like IS, AA, RG, CP ??). Roy can add a few other possible discards like SS, RD, VVSL, SJ, PC etc. to the mix and he will have a great team. Nice...
