6 Nations Rugby: Ireland winger Tommy Bowe bags award

Ireland winger Tommy Bowe was named as the RBS 6 Nations player of the championship.

Bowe polled nearly 50% of the votes cast and comfortably beat four of France's Grand Slam-winning team to the award.

The French number eight Imanol Harinordoquy was second with 20.9% and scrum-half Morgan Parra third with 11.5% of the vote.

Bowe scored three tries in what was an ultimately disappointing championship for defending champions Ireland, who lost to France and missed out on the Triple Crown with a defeat to Scotland.

"It has been a championship of mixed emotions for the Irish team but to be named the player of the championship is a fantastic way to end what has been an exciting year for the RBS 6 Nations," said Bowe.

"The tournament is always enjoyable and fantastic for rugby fans across Europe with some sensational, competitive rugby produced year after year.

"To be voted player of the championship by the fans is a huge compliment and I thank them for taking the time to vote."

The shortlist of six nominees also featured France captain Thierry Dusautoir, Les Bleus centre Mathieu Bastareaud and Wales wing Shane Williams.
